Talk about a NIGHTMARE! It's nothing compared to what R.R. did here in Texas, but it still stings! TMZ will continue with a report this evening!

Just seems to me, if he was joking, he should probably be banned for stupidity. There is a time and a place for joking and a time and place for being serious. This was the wrong time and place. You can joke about taking a bomb on a plane while sitting with your buddies over a few beers in a bar, but don't do it standing in line boarding the plane.

This is a good example of why professional golfers have such high standards of conduct. Granted, there are cameras and spectators everywhere, but a foul word or slamming a club will get you a visit from the organizational higher ups. Tiger Woods was the best thing that has happened for that sport in a long time. His recent troubles has also been a huge detriment.
I would not give up on BASS. McKinnis is trying to bring the right things to this sport, and he will deal with this matter outside the social media. In addition, I would be willing to bet that several of the Elite anglers have already privately expressed their disdain to Wellman for his actions. Whether he was joking or not, it hurts the sport...at least in a professional regard.
For those of us who love the sport, we should be careful how we respond in not having all the facts. Nobody has all the facts, only opinions. In a situation like that, a lot of decisions are based on damage control and retaining the professional aspect of the sport. Be assured, this is not finished and McKinnis et al will take care of this situation.

upside, we DO have the facts from the co-angler's mouth. You've made a bunch of assumptions with your post regarding JM, Elite Anglers, etc. Why should we "be assured?"

Food for thought......
Just curious to everyone's thought process here.....
Is "he said, she said".....are those really 'facts'?
From a legality stand point....or personal stand point?
Please explain.

We have the co angler's statement of the facts and Wellman's statement of the facts. They don't agree with regard to intent (joking matter). There is no question that Wellman broke the rules, and he has been punished for that.
I think assurance comes from the fact that this is potentially another black eye for the sport. McKinnis and hundred's of professional anglers have a lot of skin in this game. They will have some serious conversations with Mr. Wellman outside the media attention.

quotes from the co-angler, TD, and Wellman are indeed facts.
I dont understand UPSIDE, why would other anglers intervene and subject themselves to the drama surrounding this deal. I would think they would take the high road and just shun the guy and not have a thing in the world to do with him. I know I would steer very clear of a situation such as that to preserve my own integrity. The media can spin some wicked webs, even if you were trying to talk to the guy about the situation and express your concerns. They could misconstrue that as "friends"... I darn sure wouldn't even think of letting them catch a photo of myself and Wellman talking. (of course I would never be in that situation as I cant catch a cold, much less a decent bag of fish).

It's not "he said, she said" if the words come from the two people involved. Heresay would be if a passer by heard the conversation and stated "well I heard Wellman say." Heresay is inadmissible in a court of law but the statements of those involved are admissible as evidence.

"he said, she said" was the old saying I was using.
I'm talking about coangler said this...boater said this.
Is that admissable in court?
What about the Mama who supposedly killed her daughter...it was all "he said she said"...she got off.
I don't watch court TV or get into the facts of the law much...so I'm just asking....and creating discussion.

I'm too dumb to try and twist the facts and fanangle them around to try and fit what might have been Welman's true intent. It has been said already, and one guy's story hasn't changed and the other guy's has. I'm purdy simple, but, if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and smells like a duck, then it must be a duck.

Wellman already admitted he made inappropiate comments, granted miranda rights werent read, but he made the admission already so it will hold up. The only thing he disputes is the context, he says he was joking. You dont joke about some things, bombs, assasinations or killing your wife will get you in trouble more times than its taken as a joke, and joking about cheating during a tournament is not something a bright person would do. Attempted Cheating is as bad as cheating in my book because eventually he will get away with it and cheat. I personally think he has a lifetime ban he placed on himself, without sponsors he wont be able to afford to fish as a professional on his own for more than a year. BASS didnt do enough as far as this tournament, he should have been DQ'd, lost that money, removed from classic and 2nd place should be awarded the win, + probation. Its hard to do a lifetime ban without actually cheating, but I feel he will have pushed himself from the sport on his own behavior

In the trial you referenced, the Casey Anthony case, all of her statements were used against her. Statements of those who said "well I heard" or "so and so told me" were not permitted into evidence because they are "heresay." Savvy?

Wellman already admitted he made inappropiate comments, granted miranda rights werent read, but he made the admission already so it will hold up. I didn't notice that in the articles. Too many articles to keep track of in my peon brain! Yeah, well he stuck his foot in his mouth that time!
