I have an HDS 8 and I would like to be able to power it up from an AC outlet inside my house. When I have looked at the Lowrance web sight the AC adapter they have listed, which has a female cigarette lighter recepticle. does not list the HDS line of products as products it supports. Any ideas on what and where I can get an adapter.

This is a really nice ac adapter. The best thing to do is to purchase an HDS power cord from Lowrance and wire it to the 12v output of the charger. Then just plug your HDS into the Lowrance power cord connector then plug the charger into the wall outlet.

You almost have to purchase the HDS power cord from Lowrance otherwise you have no way to get the 12v to the HDS unless you keep removing the one from your boat. I doubt you want to do that.

Do you need the part no. of the Lowrance power cord?

If you want to make the unit even more portable you can buy a sealed battery like this

and just charge the battery when needed with this cheaper charger http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJC38&P=M

Hope this helps.

Have you used this adapter with a HDS unit?

No. I went the sealed battery route with the smaller charger just to charge it. I wanted to have the cleanest DC voltage possible in order to power up my units that's why I only want a battery hooked to mine. I know that some use ac/dc adapters only though. This charger has 12v @ 3A output so I know that is capable if you wanted to go that route.

When you say "sealed battery route" do you mean you just wired a extra power cable to a regular 12v battery and use that for your indoor power source?

No. The battery is lightweight small and completely sealed at the factory so nothing can leak out of it. Like this one.

It is 12v@7A so it lasts a long time just powering up the HDS

No problem. Now matter what route you take always put a 3 amp fuse in the positive wire. I had to go this way because my wife said that the large marine battery didn't match the decor of our living room. Ha Ha

Almost forgot but, another reason I like this setup is that it's portable enough you can carry it outside if you can't get a GPS signal indoors and use it there on the porch etc.

If you have a local Hobby Shop that has Radio Controlled Model planes etc. they should have batteries and chargers. The ones used for the field boxes for the electric starters for the gas model engines are what these are.

rolloman, I;m in the same boat and want to use my HDS at home. how does the HDS power cord "wire" into the adapter?? looks to me like the power cord has 3 or 4 different color wires at the end. thanks for your advice.
