Any idea why it is so hard to find ethanol free fuel in Texas? Kind of curious because we thankfully have that option here in OK about anywhere. Here in town probably 1/3 of the stations are ethanol free. Ethanol laced fuel is such a disastrous scam.

The products that the refineries produce are the key. There was a station in Flint, Tx who sold 100%. Got it from a small refinery in Waskom, Tx. Refinery stopped. Now 10% E is all we can buy in this area.

Texas stations unlike those in Oklahoma and other states, have no say so forOpting out of ethanol distribution as it is mandated by texas by region..
If someone transported and distributed non - ethanol mixed gas into a Texas stations storage tanks in a mandated ethanol blended region, it would be breaking the law. It is not federal epa, but a Texas state agency that determines the regions and dates they must switch to 10 % ethanol blend. Texas as have all states has been on a timetable for the last several years for converting slowly over to ethanol blended fuels. Other states too like Texas must also meet increasing federal requirements for ethanol, but they are not using a region by region implementation.

Most diesel is ethanol free. I did notice that the Walmart in Lewisville has started selling diesel but it contains 5% "biofuel" - no thanks, Walmart.

when the local brookshires store changed to the ethanol mix a few years ago, i asked why. their answer was in one word:
PROFIT
the ethanol mix is subsidized by taxpayers so it's wholesale price is lower than pure gasoline.
most folks don't pay attention to their mpg. others don't seem to care the ethanol mix gives ~10% less mpg.
around the lake bob sandlin area and mt pleasant there are a few gas stations that sell 100% pure regular gasoline.

I moved here from Alaska a little over a year ago and both of my vehicles literally dropped 2-3 mpg on average with the 10% Ethanol fuel down here. They do not have any Ethanol gas in interior Alaska but gas is about a $1 more a gallon than here so its really a wash! If only we could roll time back to Aug 2001 when diesel was less than a dollar a galllon and gas was right at a dollar, damn Osama!

It sounds to me like no one really knows why we have no accesss to ethanol-free gas. I would really like to know.
If it is a mandate of "SOME STATE OF TEXAS AGENCY", someone name the agency. The only one I know of with the power to do this is the TCEQ, as they control air quality. But, I haven't seen their fingerprints on this.
I can see Obama mandating this, but I can find no proof he is involved. I'm sure he would like to do it as part of his green initiative.
There has to be some data availabale somewhere on the why of this problem.
I don't like gasahol.......

Thanks, ChuChu. You're exactly right, the mandate was included in the Energy Act of 2005. the Act increases the amount of biofuel (usually ethanol) that must be mixed with gasoline sold in the United States to 4 billion US gallons (15,000,000 m3) by 2006, 6.1 billion US gallons (23,000,000 m3) by 2009 and 7.5 billion US gallons (28,000,000 m3) by 2012;[1] two years later, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 extended the target to 36 billion US gallons (140,000,000 m3) by 2022.[2] It looks like we can blame Bush, Cheney, and Obama (he voted for it). Now it will take an act of Congress to get out of it. Not likely as we would have to fight the corn/ethanol lobby. Note that that lobby will be getting something like $18Bil in subsidies per year.

The Energy Act of 1992 mandated population centers use a lower vapor pressure fuel during the summer. If a city that was not considered in a population area failed to get their paperwork in on time, they too had to use the lower vapor pressure gasoline. At that time, the company I worked for was pipelining two grades of regular unleaded, two grades of mid grade and two grades of premium from Corpus Christi during the summer, one one grade in the winter. Victoria was exempt while San Antonio was not exempt.

Actually we can blame the ethanol lobby and the farmers associations. They got the tax abatement for ethanol.

This why Iowa should not have the first primary. Name one presidential candidate that won Iowa saying he would eliminate the corn subsdidy, if elected.
