Has anyone checked out this program? How was it?
I saw that for the Labor Day weekend they were doing a big catfish stock of these neighborhood ponds, and since I have littles and a disabled FIL who uses a scooter, I was thinking this would be perfect to get them out to.
Just wondering if anyone had an experience with 'em.

The only bad thing I have heard about them is that they can get crowded.

The big problem with the program is the people who fish these ponds keep everything,no matter how small. When stocked, they fish out the ponds in no time.

We have fished at Greenbriar and Chisholm Park. We've caught nice cats from both, and this was at least a week after they stocked. I talked to the guys who stock the ponds on their last stocking in July. They were stocking just over 500 pounds that day at Greenbriar. They stock larger amounts at the Denton and Mesquite ponds.
Looks like they stocked last on August 29th.
I don't know the setup at Denton and Mesquite, but Chisholm would be perfect for someone in a scooter.

We ended up going out this morning to Mesquite (weather was BEAUTIFUL!) and it was really nice. FIL hadn't been able to fish in years and had a blast - kiddo still too little, but the nearby playground was prefect. We got a pier right near the restrooms and the parking lot, so FIL could easily access those. Everyone got a few keepers - it was really nice for the family.
We got out about 7am and there was only one other fisherman and a few early walkers, but by 9-10am it was getting crowded (lots of other anglers, walkers, kids b-day party setting up, nearby tennis court, etc.). By then though, the wind really picked up and the cats stopped biting so we were ready to leave.
Anyway, as I said good for the family - we'll defintely be going there again with the whole troop.

Sounds like you had a great outing. Glad to hear your FIL got to fish too. We battled the wind at Greenbriar for a little bit this evening; we both caught one cat. Heading back at daybreak for a couple more hours. The fish have been best for us then anyway.

The big problem with the program is the people who fish these ponds keep everything,no matter how small. When stocked, they fish out the ponds in no time. Since there are only 5 parks being stocked, they will fish out in no time at all. Too bad some people keep everything they catch.
