I know people rarely upgrade their trolling motor unless they absolutely have to because it just really needs to be replaced, but has anyone considered this iPILOT as their next upgrade? So much talk about Talons and Power Poles for stopping power, but what about being able to put on the brakes in the chop while fishing the humps, holes and structure in deeper water? I have my opinion, but want to hear yours!

If you fish a lot of deep water they are great. If you fish skinny backwater with lots of stumps or vegetation to get stuck in, I don't suggest it. I love mine, but it suites my style of fishing.

It becomes a matter of preference. I have used a Terrova for a year and love it. It is good if you think you will use the functions. I agree it may not be the best for shallow water maneuvering but it does excel at deep water and following GPS trails on points etc. I just purchased a new boat that came with the Fortrex and used it once and decided to switch it to the Terrova that was on my other boat. Fortrex is for sale in classifieds section

I love my 101lb terrova, if you buy the one with ipilot it also comes with the pedal so you have both the remote or pedal options. I use the remote mostly and love the spotlock and waypoint options.

Posted on this topic 10 times so if you'll search it you will find more info but heres the pros and cons:
Pros: Great for humps, channels, open water etc...Lets you use the tm from anywheres in the boat. Spotlock is great, lets you fish feet free. Record track is good if fishing a channel or bank. Easy to deploy & stowings not bad either.
Cons: Will not hold the claimed 10' circle in a stiff/swirling wind. The mount is the weakest link in the whole system (no flex if it hits a stump/branch). Kinda noisy, kinda slow and you have to make sure the cord doesn't ever wrap around the shaft too many times.
So the skinny is it is not a replacement for a pp or talon in shallow water if you bed fish. It is a great open water too though.

I saw the other post you mentioned. AS for openwater vs shallow, In got it. I guess mounting both type trolling motors would not be a pausable option.

I have been running 1 for over a year with zero problems deep or shallow. Its great to be able to adjust the shaft height at any time.
