Anybody on here take their kids fishing here lately? My 4 year old son is really starting to enjoy going fishing w/ his pops but still not interested in going on the boat - says the motor is too loud smile. Anyways, he's been catching a few bass at some of the neighborhood ponds but hasn't landed a big'ole cat yet. I have some fond memories of a place my step dad took me when I was a kid called Catfish Charlies in the Lake Dallas area (back then). This was another place where you pay a small fee to fish & then pay per lb you take home. I was just wondering how the fishing is at this Catfish corner place & are they some good size & healthy cats? I've caught catfish in small shallow ponds this time of year that have seemed very unhealthy & not worth putting a knife to. Anyways, thanks for any info you may have. Oh, and I don't really care about all the hype around them filleting the fish alive. I try to kill them first but if someone else doesn't want to then fine. They're fish! It's just unfortunate for catfish that they can live so long out of water. Thanks.

Just tell him you turned the volume down on the motor and then not start it out of the water or run it full speed. Candy and cokes work great too. My daughter Stacy went through a spell were she wouldn't go with me after I test started it on the driveway. I had to use the above tactics to get her back on the water.

I had the same problem with my kids. Found out it was usually the wind whipping by their ears. Got them a couple of these and they got to where they really prefered the boat.

We took my nephew there in June and had a blast. Nice sized fish.
My husband and I went back 2 more times in June and July. We fished the back pond the last time we went and both caught 7 lber's.

We used chicken livers and punch bait on the bottom...great success on both. We even helped a mom and her kids catch some. They were using worms and bobbers without luck.

He is only open from 8am until 10:30am until the weather cools off.

Have fun.

We also have had good luck at Chisholm Park in Hurst and Greenbriar Park in Fort Worth. They are stocked with cats regularly in the summer. They stocked on 8/29 and will stock again 9/17.

for those in south texas, there is another place right outside of Floresville heading towards San Antonio that has this as well. I am not sure if the old man still is running it, but we went there one time and caught some good looking cats. he also sells some very good bait when he is open. the minnows are huge...about triple the size you can buy at a gas station and usually he doesnt charge too much. like i said, i am not sure if he is open still or if he has stopped doing this. the place was called "Labatt Fish Farm." he has about 3 small/medium tanks that are available.

Thanks everyone for the information, especially the phone number. I called late last night & expected a recording w/ operation hours etc but someone actually answered the phone & answered my questions. Yeah, I've been very anxious to get my son on the boat but don't want to force it on him if he says he doesn't want to. He has always been very cautious when it comes to water but has recently become a little more comfortable. I will be getting him in swimming lessons before next summer & hopefully have a lot of fun out there then. Looking forward to him fighting a big catfish instead of messing w/ these little pond bass he has been catching. Although he did catch about a 2 lber by himself on a lure - casted, hooked & reeled him in. I was very proud of him.
