If you want to buy the KIA of Bass Boats go ahead and buy you a Nitro. I dont agree with that at all. I have rode in all brands and the nitro is the best ride of any. Team, I think he is right to a point....but I see it this way, KIA is building some of the best cars out there right now when it comes to quality, they just haven't got up to speed on holding their value yet. I think Nitro; if anything, is caught in than same trap, eventually both will break free if they stay at it.

i'm glad to hear people saying what they do and don't like about there boats... very important! heck, the manufactures won't change anything if you don't tell them whats wrong.
'93 norris craft 19ft fyi, i bought and restored this boat back from the hell the previous owner put it through. when i purchased it, the seats weren't even attached to the floor due to the rotten material and there was no shine. However, I spent this last winter fixing it up with extended composite deck, new seats, new carpet, and new vinyl (highly suggest re-flooring the bottom of your boats with this!), and lots and lots and lots of polish. anyway, my boat actually shines like a diamond now (aside from a few cracks) So I'm not sure if the cracks would have occured if it were actually treated well.
BUT: CONS: there is some spider cracking in areas. This is a very light boat and there isn't much between the floor and the water (found out the hard way installing a hot foot... its about 3/8-1/2"). The boat beats you up up rough water too and I consider it a difficult boat to drive (along with an Allison) in comparison to ranger, skeeter, nitro, etc. But, propped right people have had these boats going wicked fast. Another con (sorta), there is only a 25gal tank in my boat. I would buy another one, just a 20+ footer for a better ride. I'm amazed at how well this boat has held together for a '93 and how good it looks now from when I bought it.
PROs: light boat= better towing gas milage!!! seats sit low only about 2" off floor- it really gives you a secure feel because you feel like your riding in a cockpit. though the boat had a rough life before me, the wood in the decks was still fine and I didn't have to replace any of it during my restoration. ooo, and the chicks dig it! HA!

OK, I drive a 2008 Z9 so I will offer some input here. I am fairly unbiased and these are my observations:
It's a heavy rig. The hull is 300lbs heavier than a FX21 or a Z520 (I just looked it up) The overall package weight is 4100lbs according to the Nitro website and I bet this is before gas, batteries, gear, etc. I would bet that it is closer to 4500-4700lbs rolling down the highway. It takes a toll on the gas mileage. I have no idea why they are so heavy.
The good news is that equals a very solid ride in rough water.
People talk about the the fit and finish, but don't go into details, I will for a minute. Your 2011 Z8 probably doesn't have any of these issues that my 2008 Z9 has, Tracker Marine Group has made great strides in the last several years on these things. However there is considerable heartburn and brand damage because it took them so long to finally start making changes. For example wiring, look under my dash and its like a drunk monkey wired it. You can't tell what anything is other than just a big ball or wires zip tied together. Not the mention the wire is the smallest gauge they could get away with. This leads to electrical gremlins that are almost impossible to troubleshoot without a complete rewire. Everytime I start the motor the HDS8 reboots. Fun stuff like that.
Second point on fit and finish is the engine compartment, not saying it's bad, but it just doesn't compare the quality and layout of other boats I have seen. Plastic battery trays that are held in place by dry wall screws, battery layout and placement that was never designed for a 36V system, little stuff like that.
The pro's are the storage and fishability. The front deck has it's own area code and the storage is second to none. The Guardian livewells are HUGE. It's fast, easily 86-72 tournament loaded with the 250XS. Hole shot does suffer when it's loaded and full livewells.
Overall it's a great boat, but when you load them up like mine is (36v Foretrex, HDS8, HDS7, and all the bells and whistles) it's a 53K boat. For that price you have to compare it to the other mid 50's rigs and the above issues come into play.
However at 38K it's a freekin steal, so enjoy! Nice to see boat owners with experience offer remarks even the negatives! I grow tired of the loyal boat owners that offer NO help to those wantiing both postive and negatives. Those brand blinded followers only say great ride and great customer service!!! Most of them have little to no experience in other boats. I got chewed here by a group of " loyal purple koolade drinking brand blinded owners" when I wrote what I didn't like about my BCB.

A friend of mine has a 2010 Nitro (20') he bought new from Bass Pro Shops. He is still fighting several problems with it at this time. The main issue has been with the transom. The heads of the bolts and washers attaching the jackplate to the tramsom sunk into the transom causing the jackplate/motor to be loose. The bolts cannot be tightened because they just continue to sink into the transom. He took it back to Bass Pro (where he bought it), they contacted Nitro and their fix was to install angles under the bolt heads. They said the transom was soft but this is all they would do for him. By the way, this boat is for sale, anyone interested??

having owned both nitro and a ranger both single console both same motor i think the ranger is probly a little better quality boat based on seats and carpeting seem to be a little more durable than my nitro but the nitro does ride quite a bit smoother and towing with a jeep the nitro is quite a bit lighter... lol both have pretty much same bells and whistles and i like fishing the nitro more but then again i dont really care as long as im catching fish

I don't own a Nitro but I do fish Tournaments out of a Demo.Last year a Z9, this year a Z8.I feel like Nitro is getting there with better components than used to be in the boats. Both boats run well and are good in rough water.Fishability is good ,storage is decent on the Z8 but great on the Z9.Performance is good such as turning and getting on pad.It is true resale may not be as good as some of the others, but for the money they are a good buy.I come from fishing 10 years out of a Champion and the fit and finish is not the same of course but overall the Nitro's ain't no bad deal.

I have to say, I just sat and read this entire thread. I laughed a lot, good reading. IMO, the "keeping up with the Jones's" rules this thread. Some people are so worried about looking like fisherman and paying $ insert your ungodley price here for a tool that will probably not be used more than 25-50 times a year. The TRUTH of the matter is, there are so many people that in so far over their heads that it is a shame. I realize that there are plenty of people that have the money to blow on these, top of the line, brand name, bass boats. Don't get me wrong, they are NICE rigs. I would die to have one of those brand new Nitros, never the less a Ranger, Skeeter, Basscat, Statos Elite (the old Champs). The truth is I will probably will die before I own one of those because I am not willing to sacrifice that much money on a tool that I will use for a hobby. I love to fish probably more than most, but I will never be a Pro. So I am not going to spend that much money to look like one.
So to wrap this up, buy what you can justify spending on a hobby, love what you buy, and don't bash anyone else's equipment. I won the 1st 4 tournaments I ever fished in 1998 out of a 1975, 15ft Kingfisher, 70 hp Merc that you had to spray Carb and Choke cleaner in the carb to crank, storage box lids broke and coming unhinged, baling wire holding the TM on, livewell pump and bilge with alligator clips (negative always hooked up and when you wanted to fill livewell, then hook clip on the positive), you get the idea. I had people make fun of me the 1st 2 weeks, but after I won 4 in a row, it stopped. You don't have to have a an Escalade to drive to work. Their awesome if you can afford them, but my little plain jane GMC will do the same job at 1/4 the cost.
Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

I am a working man and don't give a poop if someone thinks driving a KIA isnt good enough for them. It is amazing that fishing has become so status related. On that note my brother owned a 96 Nitro that he bought in 98 and the gel-coat faded in two years of sitting covered outside. Other than that it was and still is a functional fishing boat that never once let us down or gave us a problem.
