Makes me crazy - I used to buy and use exclusively the Shimano Bantam Mag 10XSG, then I liked the Royal Express, now the Pinnacle PLS100. This time I bought 20 PLS100s. Has this happened to you or am I a poor reel picker? Of course this covers about 50 years of fishing....

Get used to it. They sell you what they want you to buy by dicontinuing lower cost reels and giving fancy names and endorsements to higher priced products that are no better. Some guys think that because KVD uses or endorses a reel, it's gotta be better. Maybe for him it is but maybe not for you. In any case the price goes up and you buy something because nothing else is available in your price range. Reels, poles, boats, motors, sonar, baits, ect. It's all the same scam and the guys that " have to have it" because KVD or some other pro uses it, causes the rest of us that can catch fish without all the fancy [censored] pay more for everything. Ask yourself this. Can I catch fish with a 20yr. old boat that only goes 50mph, 4 poles and reels, a simple sonar or graph, and 1 tackle box with baits? No GPS, iPhone, iPad, side looking sonar, cell phone, radio. If you can't then you're missing a lot of basic skills.

There was a Pfluger round reel (about 6000 size) that I had a couple of. It was super stout. Can't even get pawl for it any more.

Daiwa Zillion 50th Anniversary. I have a Chronarch MG on the way at the moment, hopefully after fishing with that I can add it to that list. Hell, the E series Curados and Citicas are going to be missed as well.
You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

The E series curados aren't going away though...
They're repainted, renamed, with more gear ratio options. I'd actually be happy if I liked them.
I realized I liked them AFTER they were discontinued, but the Curado D's have my vote. A more well made reel may never be made again for the price...

My favorite reels were the old Quantum 1310 MG and the Pro 1C..Don't think they made them in a long time... I try to avoid endorsed items becasue generally you are paying more for a product just because someone's name is on it not because it is neccesarily better, that endosement cost has to be added to the bottom line of the production of that product.......I found that through the years of watching hunting and fishing shows; if the money is there, almost anyone will sing the praises of a product even if it stinks....
