Seems some busy body reported a neighbor behind her that had the same 10x20 Canopy that I have (mine is used to park my boat under). The city inspector came by and told her it had to be removed. She, being the dumbutt that she is, told him I had one also (I live about 4 houses down from her. So he left me a note on my door saying mine had to be removed also. Arlington says you can only use them as temporary shelters and that you cannot leave them up for any length of time. So, keep this in mind...some noisy busybody will report you. I have to take mine down after it being up for about 7 years.

Put it on wheels and move it a foot or two north or south, east or west depending on your lot direction. You can park a huge motor home in your driveway forever as long as it moves a foot or so every month and it doesn't have an electrical cord connected to it. Check to see when the ordinance was written. If it was after your cover was put up you might be able to be grandfathered in if you can prove when it was put up.
Put the plug in.

Find out what the city's definition of "temporary" is?

Does one of those things last 7 years? I have thought about getting one but was worried that the fabric would not last but 2-3. I can understand if you have it in front of the house. One of the reasons I refuse to buy a house where there is a HOA.

....... One of the reasons I refuse to buy a house where there is a HOA. I agree. I won't even live in the city limits for the same reason. I figure I pay for my property and don't want anyone telling me what I can or can't do on it. As far as the busybodys go, I think we need a law that grants everyone the right to give 1 or 2 a**kickings a year with no consequences, to be used as they see fit. That would stop a lot of that kind of thing as well as a lot of other behavior we all have to put up with.

This has nothing to do with the HOA. This is a city ordinance.

yep...David Lee is correct. It is a city ordinance.
Wheels won't help. If the inspector can see it when he drives by (and BTW, mine is in my backyard, just inside my back driveway fence) he will give you 1 week to dismantle it and remove same before the fines start.

Can you shorten it down to the same height as the fence line? Or install tall boards on your fence?

I probably could do some of that but I'm just gonna design and build a new cover and get a permit before I start...:D
At the same time as I apply for my permit I think I'll pick up a copy of the ordinance and tell them about the same type cover that the Baptist church down the street has on their property.
