i would like to see a comparison of a "flipped" fish with a fish that was boated the "right" way or maybe a few diff ways, IE lipeed, ruber net, nylon net, cloth net, grabbed by the back it would be nice to know the "best" way

I just find it odd how someone catches a fish and holds it vertical and 35 guys give him a treatment on breaking a fishes jaw...and then a thread is a pissing contest on boat flipping big fish.

Double standard....

My dad can beat up your dad! lol

Rubber net is the only way to go with a trophy fish.

I edited the my dad can beat your dad part of my post out after someone sent me a pm asking if I was making fun of their dad?

Just meant it was a pissing contest.

Kendrick boat flipped a 60lb flathead this past weekend on 10lb test and a shakey head.

I once boat flipped a 40lb carp on a black/blue jig with a 9/0 tuna hook and 300lb mono with wire leader.

This was a mistake when I did this I guess? Not to stir controversy, I know about the jaw thing but never given any thought to the fact carpet was bad for them. I may learn something new.

5 is as big as I've tried. I can't afford to break my rods. I was going to flip a 8 in the boat earlier this year but that until I realized how big it was decided lipping it. During a tournament I will flip fish but only if they are on a Trig only.

Im not buying the carpet mortality thing. Here in Colorado a lot of our "lakes" are a couple hundred acres and we would see the dead bass everywhere and walleye too. I have yet found a dead bass with a scab or rash on its side.

But I have found one with my crankbait in its mouth and also a 4 pounder with my fluke in its mouth.

I don't think this thread was started to prove anything, I think it was started out of boredom and curiosity. However, I do see Cam's point and think it can go toward education rather than a pissing contest. None of us are perfect and we've all had bass flop around on the carpet longer than they should. That being said, we should all learn from the comment said and take something from this instead of assuming it doesn't harm the fish, when it does... Do your research. I'm guilty as most, but every time I land a fish, I try to pay more attention, let's let someone else enjoy a fish that was bigger than ours!

I harm myself all the time but im still alive. I dont think anyone would argue that laying them on the carpet is good for the fish. But im not a believer in a high percentage mortality rate either.

It will be interesting for sure.

Yes, we all harm ourselves, but are able to treat the wound to prevent infections. The only Dr. a fish has is me when I make them say... "Ahh"

It will be interesting for sure.

Yes because bass have access to all of the antibiotics that we do. I have boat flipped my fair share of fish, but none of them are large enough to where I can't catch them, or at least the line, before they hit the boat deck/shore. The biggest I've caught myself trying to flip was about 4.5 lbs, and I caught her mid swing.

LOL! that was a very humbling experience for me, that I think I needed. My brain is clear again, and fishing is back to being fun and for the experience, again. And schooling is my priority.
