Do it Cameron! Please! Put it in your tank and show a 6 hour photo progression of what happens!

Does putting them in a treated livewell for a period of time fix this or do they still get sores and die?

Cameron,

You are absolutely correct, too many people think this practice is cool, it's not, guys are worried about breaking rods, but don't seem to care about the fish.
The younger guys just getting into fishing think it is ok and cool to hoist a bass out of the water and flop it on the carpet. This will eventually kill fish. The carpet on your boat is taking the protective slime coat off of a large percentage of the fish's body. They die from a Delayed Mortality, it means they die later.

The slime coat is the bass’ protection from infection, parasites and disease.

We spend tens of thousands of dollars to chase these fish around, why not try & protect our resource.

Deal. I work tomorrow, off wednesday...I'll get an under tomorrow, give him the carpet treatment and check on him Thursday in one of our surelife TREATED minnow vats. 6 hours doesn't do the trick, takes a few days for it to get real nasty.

I just find it odd how someone catches a fish and holds it vertical and 35 guys give him a treatment on breaking a fishes jaw...and then a thread is a pissing contest on boat flipping big fish.

Double standard....

Be sure and just put it on the deck one side for about half a second. (lets keep this a true representation instead of sanding the fishs slime coat off and making a giant deal aobut it)

You mean I can't hold it by the jaw...Take 5 pics...put it on a scale...put it on a measuring stick that is sitting in the 105 degree sun?

Lol you can do whatever you want. ALl I am trying to say is that the post makes it seem that the majority of big fish that are swung in the boat die from delayed mortality. I do not know if this is true or not because I am not a biologist that studies bass.

Your experiment seems like a good idea. Swing a bass, let it touch the carpet. Take a photo or whateve ryou wanna do then see if it dies or not.

The key is to boat flip it and not have it touch the deck! Everyonce in a while a fishes tail tip will hit, I ain't gunna lie. But the fish I flip in dont go flopping around like .... " a fish outta water" lol

I will be honest, 4.5 probably the biggest for me.. I enjoy lipping them, and tourney time they swim right into the net.
