Definitely understand that! I really can't afford to lose any of my gear either. Good luck out there!

I use the same kind DCM has but if I have to walk any distance I'll load up to 8 of them in one of my extra fold away chair bags, they are the nylon bags with the shoulder strap. I used to have a baseball bag that worked good to it would carry tacklebox, bait, rod holders, and beer. Either one works great

I like the ones Dontcatchmuch uses but make them a bit shorter. 18 inch of 1/2" rebar 18 inch PVC 2 hose clamps the two in background of my pic are shorter smaller diameter rebar ( 1/4" or 3/8") but they bend when beating them in hard ground and bending over to give handle a cpl cranks with circle hooks before grabbing rod was getting old.... so the two big ones are 1/2" rebar ( dont bend beating in ground) much longer (48") putting reels higher which I like better also put a thru bolt at bottom so reel is not resting the "foot' of the reel against the pvc...gonna make 4 more like them.... the shorter ones I could put in ground about 8"-10" and had even a 6 lb blue pull rod and holder out of the ground....hooked a big ol needle nose gar at Lake Worth that just yanked it out of ground no problem- glad I was standing right behind it... the big rod holders I can beat 12" -18" in the ground and they ain't coming out- I've had trouble getting them back out when i was ready to go... that's why I used 2' of rebar

Good stuff, thanks for all the info! I actually have a fairly advanced Carp/Buffalo setup with euro style rod pod, elec bite indicators, etc. But I've found for Catfishing I get more hook ups (with circle hooks) by just tight lining and letting the bend of the rod hook the fish. I have to admit, it's a rush to see the rod start to bend over. I've been using the cheap plastic/steel rod holders from Cabelas, but I definetely need some of those steel/pvc rod holder setups, very nice.

Thanks again for all the advice. 4t rebar, duck tape, pvc pipe, hose clamps. Worked like a charm!

Nice, Remember when banking don't put them at too much of and angle towards the water. When a big cat hits your R&R will look like a rocket firing out of the pvc pipe

Thx 2Fish, that's funny as hell and it's actually happened to me in the past. I had to jump in the water to get the rod. lol.. I made 3 more for other situations, these are 2ft versions. I had a pm about these, so here's the info: All from Home Depot. 2 or 4ft by 1/2 inch rebar. (4ft rebar $2.65) 2ft x 2in PVC $3.70 - I had Home Depot cut them in half for me. I used the larger diameter pvc to make sure it will handle any rod I use. Hose Clamps $1.30 2 per holder. Heavy duty (water proof) duct tape $7.98 - I don't think you really need this, but I used it just for the hell of it. I placed the duct tape tightly around the rebar/pvc before putting on the hose clamps. I also left a bit of rebar sticking out over the pvc pipe to make it easy to hammer in without risking damaging the pvc pipe. You're looking around $8.00 per rod holder for the 4ft versions. These things ended up being rock solid and I can't imagine a more sturdy, durable rod holder at any price. If you're not a do-it-your-selfer, you might want to consider fish_hunter's offer at the top of the thread.

I use the $1.97 rod holders from walmart. Never had a problem with them.

Instead of using Re-bar, I use smooth Hot roll bar stock. Drives easier, and holds good, but is easier to pull out of the ground. I have used both square and round stock. Mos of the ones I have now are made just using scrap laying around my shop, so some are a little short.

I use these. Cheap, easy to make, and strong.

Getcha one of these. Fill the bucket with water and it'll hold your rods good. Get ready to move dump it out and load up and go.

That's a great idea, since you can fill that up with some shad as well. One less thing to carry when haulin gear from the truck.

1 ft sections of 2" pvc. 2ft piece of 3/8" rebar. Triple wrapped in red duct tape. Id put its strength against hose clamps any day.
