Eagles know where the fish are, best fisherman on the lake. So If you see an eagle your probably in a good spot.

There are a bunch of them that hang around Fork in the spring. Rains County is the Bald Eagle Capital of Texas btw....

Not on Fork, but did see one here on Waco last year, he/she was doing a little fishing, after circling a spot for a bit, he/she does a free-fall into the lake (from about 100-150 feet), successfully lands its breakfast, then gracefully gets back airborne, meandering its way back to its nest, or a secluded spot to dine...one of the coolest things, was not ready for the drop with my phone/video cam (still kick myself)...

The coolest thing (bird-wise), I was in Alaska (Ketchikan), fishing for halibut several years ago with my FIL & BIL, action was slow, so cruising around, we spot several eagles perched on/near waters edge, our capt. rigs us up with some smaller tackle/lures, and we soon have a dozen rock perch on board, and I'm starting to get antsy. We cruise back near one of the eagles, and toss a fish in his direction, then idle away, the eagle eyes that fish AND us (simultaneously, at least I thought so), we hit that magic distance, and it swoops in, talk about majestic...and intimidating...sad to say, 11 different eagles, and my best pic was a pair of claws about to dig into some floating fish flesh (my wife is the photographer), no video cam on board...Eagles are some "bad hombres"....my apologies for the ramble..

There is a pair on Cypress that have been here all year. We saw them nesting back in Feb then were amazed to see about 6 weeks ago they never left. They are in the far West end of the lake as you head to Cypress Creek on that small creek on the right hand side. I see them just about every time I go down there.

That Bald Eagle is living between the dam and Dale. There is actually two of them that hang around there.

Read something here while back how some of the older ones will find homes further south now more than usual because of the length of travel and now an abundance of food for the eaglets all year. They are just becoming more acclimated to the heat. Weird.

I have never seen one on fork except in cold weather. If you want to see more eagles (all kinds)than you can imagine try the Squaw Creek Wildlife Refuge near Mound City Mo.In the winter they are there by the hundreds to feed on the migrateing snow geese. While it made me happy to see that many still around ,it kind of spoiled the excitement of seeing one or two at a time.

I'm always surprised at how big they are.

The adults are massive, esp when airborne...
