I caught this crappie today and it looks like it has a horn on its head. Probably a chunk of his head was taken out when he was younger. A guy at the fish cleaning station said he caught one like it before. Anyone else catch one like it?

I've never caught one that looked like that.

It does surprise me when filleting them how many have had their back broken and yet healed and continued to survive to become an adult crappie.

It must be a tough life out there under the water.

I second the comment on Crappie that have survived a broken back. I have caught probably a dozen over the past year that have had major back trauma and have survived. Tough little fish.

Every once in awhile we'll catch those Brahma crappie here on Cedar Creek, but not very often. I'm guessing a bird just barely missed what could've been a tasty meal, and the scar tissue healed back like that. Neat pic bud!
