I know the trout in this river can make it year round, but how long will this river have a "catchable" amount of trout in it?
This section of the river gets alot of fishing pressure so I am curious how long do you guys think Blue Hole will have a fair amount of trout in its waters?

The trout here at Blue Hole can only live until April at the latest. After that the waters get too warm. Not sure about the numbers.

When you say "Blue Hole" are you referring to the Blue River in Southern Oklahoma?

I havent been down there in a while so I dont know how things are going at blue hole.
Last time I was there the trout were hitting small plastic worms like crazy. It was a lot of fun.

Well, we had a trip planned for the Guadalupe on Monday, but looks like that is awash with the flow release planned for this weekend and into next week. Anyone been to blue hole lately? What patterns should one try? I've never been there..are there still plenty of fish to be caught there?

I havent been down there in a while but I think I might get down there this weekend. To answer your question there should still be plenty of fish in there. TPW stocked it twice this year instead of once-2500 trout total. As for patterns, lots of fish hit the top in the evening and I assume that they do the same in the morning so dry flies might be a good bet. Most people that I hear about that catch trout down there seem to be using streamers above the dam. Good Luck.

Well, ventured out to Blue Hole on Monday, and spent a couple of hours there with no luck, only a couple of strikes but no takers. At least I got a chance to scout things out. I learned 2 things: 1. It would have been better if I would have taken my waders with me instead of trying to cast from the bank; 2. A sinking tip line or sinking line may have been better, as it looks really deep along the cliffs there and didn't see any trout in the shallow side.

Has anyone else had any luck there lately? Tried woolly buggers, various nymphs. I didn't see any of the bait fisherman catch anything either while I was there? Go figure?

I like to wade fish down from the dam just above and below the bridge. Sometimes it gets real tough to catch those little boogers after they been in the water for a while, but those stockers are use to being fed regularly and are easy prey for the first few lucky fisherman that go after them shortly after being stocked. I recently attended a flyfishing festival where a biologist gave a talk about the trout stocking program in Arkansas. Studies show that 90+% of the fish stocked are gone within the first two weeks after stocking and not all are taken by fisherman and the smaller the fish the more of them that just disappeared and that is why Arkansas started stocking bigger fish. Places like the blue hole are stocked with the intention of having all fish caught and taken home quickly. I seldom keep any fish, but this study has really opened my eyes to how strange the behavior of "Catch and Release" is in these state stocked sites down here in the south.
