I am going to be a rookie next weekend slinging arties in the surf. I bought some TTK's pumpkin/white/chart. But I was wondering what is the best all purpose colors, and which are your favorite colors?

Thanks Leon

In general use darker colors in dark, dirty, stained, muddy, low visibility waters. Something that rattles or vibrates helps fish find it too.

Lighter and or brighter colors in clearer water.

Pumpkin char is one of them. Plum, morning glory (black / char), Roach, and glow. Firetiger is good as well. It's more important to be in the fish.. if you're in fish ... you could throw a baby ruth bar and propably get bit.. But in general dark colors on dark days or muddy water..Bright days bright bait and natural colors in clear water..

Trust me, I have a LOT of confidence in the Plum/Chartreuse color, - it's my go to and has put some serious food on the table for my family, ... but when the trout ain't hitting it and they are hitting that Glow/FireTail almost every cast at the same dang spot - I'm chunkin' what's workin' !!!

wink

Everyone: You usually just throw those on a 1/8 oz chart jighead?

With the Glow/Firetail, I use a Silver color jighead. IMHO, this set up resembles a shrimp. (Summer)

With Plum/Chartreuse, I use a chartreuse color jig head. (Spring, Fall)

With Morning/Glory, I use a Glow color jighead. (Winter)

I throw an unfinished jighead 1/16oz or 1/8oz and very rarely a 1/4oz if there's a lot of current.

I also throw off-set worm hook with 1/8oz lead on the shank for weedless presentations.

anywhere from a 1/16th to 1/4th depending on conditions in white, chartreuse, or unpainted...I like the h20 xpress coastal jigheads because they are sharp, have a durable finish, and the hook doesnt bend very easily when unhooking a fish

I'm catching lots of trout right now on white/chart and salt&pepper/chart. The water is almost too clear right now though so once the sun comes up I'm switching to live bait.
