Anybody use one for landing bigger fish? Me and dad have been talking about getting one, anybody use one, or want to recommend a good one?

Get a good big net. $35 at Academy. Easier to use with limited damage to fish.

BTW it is much easier to net than gaff. MUCH EASIER!!!

We have a net, its not huge, but its big enough for now, i'd say its 3 feet deep, and 2 feet across. I think ill be asking for a BIG net for xmas this year, and lots of reels/rods.

A gaff works good for getting fish off of trotlines, but a net works better for catching them on rod & reel, I think you can get a big net at Academy for about $30.00 it is well worth it for big fish!!!

I can see a gaff working real well on them ocean fish with the flatter bodies, but on a big round slimy blue cat, that would be like trying to hook a wet bar of soap.

i have one and only use it on the big ones over 40lbs, and i dont enter there flesh cause it can kill them, i just play them till they roll over and i gaff the bottom jaw i make sure it is in its mounth and goes below the jaw bone, and i mainly use the gaf for control purposes, i don't lift them with it cause if it is big it will break the jaw, i just get my buddy to hold the gaf while i get the death grip on its lips

We have gaffed probably 50 large fish this summer in the gulf and there is NO doubt it's much easier to net a fish than to gaff it...and, you don't get blood all over your boat.

I have plenty of bloopers from this summer of gaffing fish on my boat. Should have video done in a week or so. Looking forward to sharing. thumb
