I am a saltwater fly fishing newbee planning to spend a few days over there next week mainly wading. Please help me. Is there any fly shop in this area? Is it safe to wade those water? Please recommend some spots for wading. I will really appreciate any input from my follow TFFers.

Upper or Lower? Upper has Roys Bait and Tackle, which has a small fly shop that can get you set up or help with flies. It is safe to wade out here just keep an eye out for stingrays and don't make any sudden movement or walk backwards and you should be fine.

Depending how south into the lower laguna madre you go the only shop that I know of is "The Shop" in Port Isabel. If you are coming to the Corpus area and need some help wading I can point you in the right direction as well.

I went around July 4th very much in your situation. I hadn't ever stalked Reds on the flats before and was planning on going Lower. Went to "The Fly Shop" I believe it was called just before the bridge on the right before hitting the bridge over to South Padre Island. You can find on on google maps by searching fly fishing South Padre. If you're planning on wading, I was turned on to a few of the hot areas around. On South Padre Island there is a convention center, bayside, where a lot of people like to go. The bayside area near the center is a great place to fish the flats. The downside is it can get crowded and it's mainly grass beds. It can make sight fishing a bit more difficult and also spotting rays.

I opted to go up to the far north western end of the island almost as far as you can go. Either park you car on the side of the road and walk or drive on the beach if you have a 4x4. There are miles of sand flats up there that hold fish. Ask the gentlemen at the fly shop what's hot right now, but I was using shrimp patterns and smaller clousers.
