If I am loading/ unloading a boat by myself at a public ramp what is the best process for doing so? It is a 14' with a 25hp outboard. What is the best way to keep traffic flowing?

tie a long rope from the bow to your trailer, back into the water until the boat floats off,(try to launch where the wind is blowing the boat off the trailer, not on). then pull the truck forward until the boat is sitting slightly up on the ramp. Tie the boat off to something at the ramp, or pull it up far enough so it wont float off,(you can also tie an anchor onto the bow rope and jam it into the ground). then go park the truck. (make sure your rope is good and strong) because if it snaps and the wind is blowing you got a problem. its a very easy and quick way tpo launch by yourself. you will have to get used to onlookers screaming... MISTER YOUR BOAT IS FLOATING AWAY!!!.. until they realize its tie to the trailer..

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Yea that's prob the easiest and fastest way to do it with a light weight boat. I'm not able to do that with my big center console boats very easily, but I used to do that with my Lund. I just back in till the boat floats then drive the boat off the trailer now. Good luck

Make your rope long enough for the boat to slide back about 2/3 the trailer length. Once the boat is floating backward, drive forward slowly and stop where you can walk to the trailer tongue without getting your feet wet. Take the rope off the trailer and walk on the trailer to the boat and get in. Helps if you install a board on the trailer frame to walk on so you don't slip off easily. Also put a snap hook on each end of the rope once the rope is the correct length. You can start the motor without being off the trailer. That way you're not stranded if the motor doesn't start and the wind is not blowing you around. Motor to the bank or dock and tie boat off. This keeps from getting the feet wet; especially good in cold weather.

Getting the boat "off" the trailer may be the easy part. I see more folks struggle with getting back "on" the trailer. The trick to that is to set up your boat trailer so you can drive on...all the way to the winch. There are bolt on kits available for small boat trailers that will help guide you on straight. Get the trailer too deep and you'll float off the runners, too shallow and you wont be able to drive all the way up to the winch. Trial and error will show you the correct depth.

Courtesy wise, prepare everything you can safely in the parking lot before you get on the ramp, ie. transom saver, plug, tieing the rope to the trailor, etc.
On a busy day, it will help speed the process up and make the people behind you much happier.
That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

just a reminder since this just happened to me on the ramp at Lewisville 2 weeks ago, ALWAYS Look to see if the ramp is clear before backing down. It was approx 5am and not good light and this guy just pulled up, lined his trailer up in the ramp lane we had occupied and commenced to back his trailer down, had I not gotten his attention with my bright lite he would have backed right in to us.....he said to me "I am not used to anyone being down there this early.....??????? it could have been a bad deal for all of us!

I use a 3/8 braided rope about 40ft long tied to my boat and the other end is tied to my support line for my tailgate. I coil the excess rope and put it on my tailgate then back it down till it floats off. Then i get out and pull the boat back to me and move it to on side, always use the last ramp that the wind blows your boat AWAY form the other ramps, beach it ,untie the rope and move your truck. Mark

Now that I got the new trolling motor I am going to use the I-Pilot method. One of the guys in the general equipment section said he pushes his boat back far enough to drop his trolling motor. he then uses the remote to drive his boat back and spot locks it. He goes and parks the truck, comes back down and uses the remote to drive the boat over to the courtesy dock where he loads up.
The only thing that would make this easier would be a self deploy button on the remote

yea, dude backs his yak into the water, pulls out and parks, walks back to the water, hits the remote, deploys the TM and drives it to the dock to pick himself up

I'd like to see that for sure. Not as much for the ease of unloading the boat as for ease of deploying my Minn Kota! Please forward the vid if you find it. OkieBob

Just be certain you tie the rope to your trailer before backing in and letting the boat float free. Don't ask how I know this...
