I tried out some Loon floatant this weekend, man that stuff works great on dries! Its a powder in a plastic tube. You put the fly in, line and all, close the top and shke it really well. The fly will float for cast after cast after cast. Never had any other treatment work so well (will see how the Gudebrod's works out on flies treated at home)

Robin: Where did you find the Loons flotant? Remember, Del Rio is not the capital of the fishing world. I build most of my deer hair flies on size 8 hooks, of which I have more than sufficient numbers. If not, I'd have to live with a stack of catalogs on hand to find material, hooks, etc. Loons sounds like a helpful item, to replace a few of the homemade concoctions I've tried, and usually discarded, over the years. Thanks--=ROSS=

Hi Ross
I got it at BassPro shop a while back when I was in there piddling around. I suppose that it could be mail ordered. The catalog number at Basspro online catalog is 38-464-212-00
the Cabelas catalog number is IC-313458 Really good stuff, I was amzaed at how long that big ol deerhair dragonfly floated like a cork!

further review in the Cabelas catalog seems to let the cat out of the bag that this stuff is simply pure silica. Now, to find a source of pure silica, possibly the pharmacy?

Thanks Robin.. Now all I have to do is get the catalog, which as I have often noted, is almost as tough as finding a decent tackle supplier here in the wilds of south Texas. =ROSS=

hey Ross, just go to www.cabelas.com and/or www.basspro.com - you can do it all right there online if you like. On another topic, thanks for all that deer hair! Nice stuff and I am whipping out the muddlers as fast as I can! ------------------ RRhyne56
