I stopped by firend's house tonight. I actualy was mistaken-the boat is a 14 ft long V bottom aluminam boat. It must be from 1960 era and the contruction is solid. I figure the wind will be the biggest deciding factor. I can't wait to head out there and come back with a great report.

Hey Dave, I am leaving tomorrow night around 8 or 9pm and staying until Sunday. Super excited to be heading out. I will give a report on Sunday when I return. We are planning on hitting the bay each day and doing some surf fishing too.

That sounds sooo kewl. I have to wait until the last week of October for $$$$ reasons. There is a pier at POC on the bay. All of the locals should know it if you don't. Walk to the end and turn right to the end drop your line and hopefully you will be catching and not fishing!
Tight lines!

Looking forward to launching the boat and seeing how the little 14 footer does out there! Fishing reports have been real good so I am feeling pretty confident. Thanks to all the folks who have shared information. I will update when we return. Any more advice is welcome in the final hours before I depart.

Put in at charlies and slip across the intercoastal into shoalwater, keep your eyes peeled, you'll see lots of redfish.

Lots of fish year-round in shoalwater. In a small boat, that is the way I would head also. That or lots of places off the ICW near Charlies.

Well guys I got back yesterday after 4 days on the coast and I was not ready to leave. Trip started off Last Wednesday when we left Austin, we arrived in Seadrift around 2am and went to check out the house we were going to stay at. We realized it had no electricity or water and in this heat there was not way we could stay there. Got a room at a local motel and fished Thursday out in the bay in Seadrift. Winds were blowing hard so we headed to the barge canal where we caught a small shark, several gafftops, and some hardheads. Headed back in that evening and got a ticket as I left the launch for running a stop sign. None of us saw a stop sign there. Hauled aZZ up the road to aransas pass where we got a room at the super 8. Fished in the estes park lighthouse lake area each day. Winds were high. Managed some small reds and trout, lady fish, etc. At night found schooling trout in chanel by crab mans bait shop. We caught on every cast throwing artificials but most were just under. I also got broke off 4 times at least using a 30lb leader. Apparently that is not enough. While fishing Saturday night in chanel off 361 heard a loud boom..2 cars had a head on collision right in front of Crabmans. Life flight cmae out and we watched them cut 2 people out of two different cars. It took about 45 minutes to get one of the individuals out. Hopefully everyone survived.
All in all it was a great trip. We ate at Taqueria Guadalhara in Aransas pass-pretty good food at good prices. We also went to Fins in Port A one night and got sat on the patio. No one greeted us after 10 minutes so we walked into the restaurant and asked the bartender for a few drinks. He replied that we had to order from our server. We left and will never come back. Port A has the worst service I have ever seen. Dairy queen was down the street. The super 8 was clean and the service was good. I do plan on heading back in October.

Jer,
Sorry to hear that you some low points on your trip. At least you had a good time. Sounds like Fins was getting lazy or they weren't interested in making $$$. I also had a bad experience in Fulton just down the road.
One trip there at POC we noticed a boat the was partying hardy. They were loud, very loud. Anyway they left before we did and on our way in at about 1AM there were a lot of cops, Coast Guard and EMS people there I read later that they hit the south little jetty at 30MPH One person killed after flying over the front of the boat and hitting her head on the rocks. Be careful!
I am going to POC on the last weekend of October. I'd love to offer you a seat in the boat but it is currently full. Prolly do the big jetties. You may want to put in at the Fishing Center at POC and head out to the back bays. There is a cut there to get there if the boat you are taking the 14' Ask the folks there. Free lauch. Anyone's thoughts on the back bay idea on the 14' back bay info.? I don't want to feed Jer with bad info.

Thanks Dave, let me know if that seat opens sounds like fun. The boat did fine but when we were beached on shore wading some wakes from big boats did put some water int he boat. We made it through Aransas Bay and redfish bay just fine. We also fished the peir at fin and feather but nothing but sand trout there. I also was concerned about the terrible sewage smell coming from that place. Something aint right there.
