Going to Broken Bow Thur-Sun and mainly fishing the lake but am going to take my 6wt and try and sneak a away for an early morning foray or two with my 11 yr old to try and catch a rainbow or two. I am going to go by Sids shop Friday afternoon, but need a couple of ideas on where to park and try to get me started Friday morning until I can get a map from Sid etc. Any idears on something that is fairly easy access and my son could throw some trout bait or rooster tails near me type area?

A good place for your son to catch some trout would be the pool below the dam at the start of Spillway Creek. Use corn on about a size 10 hook. That's where my daughter caught her first trout.

Good luck,
Rex

i wouldnt fish directly behind the dam, fish seem not to bite there, id go to zone 1, and go down where there is a little bridge and a pool on the east side of the road, and put a tiny bober and use worms and corn, there are some huge trout in the little pond

Didn't have but about two hours to fish on the river Saturday mid-day (spent more time fishing the lake, and it was sloowww). I caught a 10in rainbow on a fly (and had two other takes I missed or fish got off), and my boys caught a couple on powerbait. It was mid-day up river from the 2nd footbridge in the Spillway creek area. Seemed to be biting the tiniest flies I had in my box. Some spincaster guys told me that the best bite was afternoon. Talked to a couple of guys that fished for 7 hours in Zone 2 and never got a take. Sure is a pretty place.
