I bought one and tried it once and carried it back to Academy. Wouldn't cut hot butter.

Look at the 31613 American Angler. Difference in blade cutting design. Those small serrations in the 31300 blade tend to stop up quickly with meat; then won't cut. The blades with larger serrations work much better. I've used the same 31613 for about 4 yrs. Been thru several blades and it's still working just fine.

I've tried them all and the old American angler ultra was my favorite. Luckily I still have about 5-6 new ones plus the 5 were using now. None of the brands I've tried including the ultra will last us long. I wish someone would make a good one that lasts.

I have the berkley one and it's been working pretty good so far. Had it for 2 years no problems. Down side is it gets hot when you clean a whole lotta fish.

Wal-Mart black and Decker for $9.99 works well on crappie. The local Wal-Mart quit carrying them but I found them in Killeen and purchased five (last my life time). Best value for the price in my opinion.

You might what to try the saltwater version. Mister Twister Saltwater Piranha Fillet Knife http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores...ife&Ntk=AllI know this is the Crappie forum but we used a Sawzall on a bull red last year. Fine blade. Check this out. Be patient. It will take a little time to load in QuickTime. http://db.tt/aerOZSi

I just use a plain old fillet knife. Maybe a second longer per fish but no plugging in and no batteries to mess with.

Use electric tape to tape down the trigger. They will last MUCH longer and not get as hot. Also easier to fillet when you don't have to hold the trigger down. It's the on/off switch in the knives that usually give out first.
Since I've been doing this the blades wear out before the knives quit.
Trust me on this.
