Got on the lake about 11:45 AM after it stopped raining. Water was like glass. It was very nice not to be in the heat. Fish were scattered in 9-13 ft. My brother and I took home 47. Waded through dozens of dinks. We were off the water by 5:00 PM. Fish were caught mostly on minnows. It's a great lake and Mike at the store knows on the map where we were fishing. Might be out tomorrow. Russell

Quiet!! We do not want the metroplex to know what we have here.
If Glen Rose and Bryson and other small towns will not share why should we? Tell Mike not to talk.
Of course I am just kidding. It is a state park and I feel strongly it is for everyone. From now to October the lake will yield some monster crappie. And we locals know where they are. It is wonderful to have such a resource only 10 minutes from the house.

Smithhaven You are right. Best kept secret in our neck of the woods. I do feel for Mike, they have put their heart into he store. If I can bring a few more fisherman to the park and help his business, then that's a good thing. What better place to introduce fishing to a child or Crappie to a fisherman who have never any luck at it than MWSP. How good does a lake have to be when a person can limit every day any day of the month? I've not fished it in the fall, bird season begins and I'm in the fields until end of Feb.

A buddy and myself fished Saturday morning in the rain and we got 19 keepers. I would like to warn anyone loading and unloading a boat at the ramps to be careful I damaged my prop pretty bad, loading the boat. I have hit rocks now on both sides of the ramp. No fishing for me until I either get it repaired or replaced.

Rainman, I'm sorry to hear about your boat. The trip prior to yesterday The park rangers had a full crew of guys dumping and grading gravel on both boat ranps. If your intrested in a trip in my 2 seater let me know. We can share our info on the lake and catch a limit of fish. Russell

That is just one of the hazards of fishing when the lakes are lower than normal. Thanks for the invite Russell, I just might have to take you up on that offer. I am looking for a prop now. Also looking for a shop to repair ( if it can be) that is close to Stephenville.

I too hit rocks Saturday at Mineral Wells. I launched on the ramp closest to the store and hit rocks backing my boat out, about 10 feet out from my trailer. I loaded my boat up on the other ramp and hit rocks when I got close to my trailer. I'll be keeping my motor trimmed up as high as possible from now on. On a brighter note the fishing was pretty good. I threw back the smaller keepers and cleaned a dozen really nice ones. It was a nice cool rainy morning on the lake. All my fish were caught on Slab Bandits in 12-14' water around brush and submerged tires. If you go up the lake go very slow after you pass the big cove on the left with a telephone pole sticking out of the water. The water gets shallow and there are many stumps just below the surface. Until about two weeks ago I was catching limits around those stumps in about 7' water but they are in deeper water now.

The prop #'s on the one I got shows to be 10" 13 spline with a 15 pitch. The motor is a 2000 Mercury 50 hp elpto, 2 stroke.
