This was the first time I really got into the spring run whitebass with the fly rod. Using two flys at a time really increases the odds wink

Don't ya just love it? I remember the first time I did that... and there have been many times since.

Micah 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Which flies did you catch them on and how did you fish them? I'll find my own fishing hole. Ralph

How do you rig up your 2 flies? I have 2 approaches that I have used:

- Tie a fly on, then tie a section of mono on the hookbend and tie the other fly to that. I would guess the drawback are that I cant crimp the barb on the first fly since I am depending on that to hold the line. The other may be that I could possible miss strikes to the first fly if the mono is in the way.

- My other approach is to tie on the fly, then partly up the leader, make a small, real flat loop, and push that loop through the hook eye, then push the fly through the loop. Depending if the hook eye is big enough this could be easy and quick to do. Drawback is that the fly can slide down the leader, so you sometimes need to re-adjust the position of it.

Do you have a better/alternate method? It seems you from the pic that you have 2 flies attached seperately. Dont you get issues with the 2 flies getting tangled and wrapped up?

I agree that two flies works wonderfully better that one for sandies.

I like to tie a palomar knot on about 2 to 3 foot tippet and tie the first fly halfway up the tippet. Then just tie in the second on the end with an improved clinch knot. I use a loop to loop system so I have a bunch of tippets already cut and ready to attach.

I don't think I've ever lost both flies. I have lost the trailer occasionally when a big hybrid hits it.

I first started using two flys at a time 2 years ago when fishing for schooling LM bass at Lake Bryan and quickly learned that heavier line was necessary because even a pair of 1 1/2 pounders will break the line if they go in opposite directions frown I found that as long as you are using 8-12 # line that will work for most situations. The exceptions are really big fish like hybrids. Years ago I've used spec rigs in the past with 20# mono between them and have had it snap like nothing when two big hybrids were on it! It is the rod that keeps the line from breaking more then anything else because it acts like a shock absorber. I was fishing at Lake Somerville last Tuesday where I was doubling up mostly with small fish because the bigger ones were out of range with the fly rod. I caught fish pretty consistantly for three hours straight, mostly with spinning gear loaded with a roostertail. All the big fish I caught that day were on the spinning gear. I don't do anything special to tie on two flys, basically I tie two tippets to the end of my leader. If your into twisted furrelled leaders this is a really good application for them because of the added shock absorbsion. If your fishing with sinking line forego the leader all together and just use good strong line of your choice. I generally don't worry to much about whether the whitebass can see the line or not because they seem to like bright shiney flashy streamers. Tuesday I was using one pistol pete streamer and one regular. Neither of these flys are anything special, although the propeller really seemed to help the fish find the flys. It's not hard to catch doubles, just let the first fish on swim around until one of his buddies picks up the second fly wink
