I fished Somerville on Monday with Jim Shelton and his son Bishop, of Bryan, TX. The boat ramp is getting really tough on launching, dropping an inch a day. Five more days and the lake will be 8 feet low, which could be a turning point for closeing boat ramps. I may be changing lakes soon. We looked in some deeper water for fish, and found mostly under sized ones, so we looked in shallow water and found some fish. Jim and Bishop ended the day with 31 keepers for the cleaning table. All fish caught on CJ's crawdad punch bait, tight lines, in 3-5 foot water.

Nice catch. Punch bait is one of the most effective catfish baits i've ever used.

Weldon,
Two of our sons went out Monday night and caught 25 and half of them were big (big for us anyway, around 20 inches.) This was completely random as they were fishing in the same spot we always do and we normally catch a lot of small ones. Plus they caught all different kinds of catfish. Maybe the low water conditions are shaking things up for the fish.
We caught 20 white bass the other morning down near Deer Island trolling with pet spoons in 6 feet of water. What's odd is that the fish were in the same spot they always are. That spot used to be 13 feet deep, then 9 feet deep now 6 feet deep but the white bass still hang out in the exact same area regardless of depth. I had not anticipated that. I thought they would move out with the water depth as the lake level dropped. This has not been the case at least in this one spot.
If they close the lake maybe you can start doing guided bank fishing trips? This is a bizarre year. It makes me realize how much I take for granted.
We bought a new electric knife and our catfish cleaning is going better. We still have a long way to go :-)

Nice catch you have there. Was wondering where you have been. Was hoping you were on vacation or something and nothing had happended. We went last week and caught about 20 or so. Saw you at the launch about 2 weeks ago while you were waiting to load and we were loading the blue deck boat. Hope to see you again on the water.
