Retail $180 are $50 off thru March 5th at the Buda store. I haven't heard much about the XST. Anyone know if it's worth the drive to go check it out?

Cabelas has not let me down to date with any of their products. The XST is a fast saltwater rod. To quote the Cabelas website "High winds. Big water. Big fish..." The smallest one I saw was a seven weight.
This could be a good striper rod for sure. Or a Gulf of Mexico rod.
Probably not best suited for bluegill or small pond fishing unless one were after big channel cats on the fly.

I'm looking for an 8wt flats rod. TFO's are all the rage right now, just thought this might fit the bill($) instead. I'm gonna take a look tomorrow.

if it performs per their write-up on it then it ought to be a fine flats rod.

I have a friend that has been an avid flyfisher for longer than I have been alive. For what it is worth he was just telling me today that this price is an absolute steal. He was telling me about how great of a rod this XST by Cabela's was last week before the sale. Now that it is $50 it is a must, according to someone that knows much more than I do about fly fishing.

well poot! Go back to the Bargain Cave and ask them whats sitting in the back room. I have done that a few times and come up with some crazy deals! One time the fellow paraded out a bunch of gear that he said "has to go" and sold it to me for 90% off. Yes thats right. I was lucky that day but the only way to get lucky is to keep on trying

If they were just $50 dollars I would have every XST in their shop plastered all over ebay right now. I called Cabela's (Buda) Friday morn before I drove over to make sure they had an 8wt. "Yep, we got plenty of 'em". I arrive to find out that in fact, they don't. I might consider a 9wt if I could test cast it. Which I planned to do anyway. "Nope, management says no." They also shortened the warranty from 25 years to 10 years for the ones on sale. 3 strikes 'nuff said.
