Last night at Lavon, My buddy Clarence got a tap-tap-tap kinda bite, then his pole doubled over. He pulled back for a few seconds, and whatever it was wrapped his line around something. He pulled back on the line like it was a bow and arrow and gave it a pop. The fish was free of the hangup then and pulled him off balance. It then jerked his pole out of his hand and into the water.High dollar Shimano setup....Clarence dove in and rescued his pole. As he came up to fight the fish he was pulled ...with quite a lot of force, underwater. Three times. He tried to steer the fish to shore, but it didn't oblige. His line finally snapped. (it was just 20lb. big game...he didn't have his drag set for this kinda fella). Clarence is a big guy. This fish kicked his butt. He's also a highly skilled fisherman. Trying to speculate on the size is futile. But wow.
Fishing near timber/dropoff at creek using jumbo white shrimp.

That is a cool story!!! There's greatness in getting manhandled by a slimy beast.

Hee-Hee! No tears....but he couldn't get it off his mind. Went on about it till I dropped him off at his house this morning! Yeah...it got under his skin. He's convinced it would have been a PB....maybe even a lake record.....LOL! Too-Bad.....we'll never know.

I meant to ask if there was any gigglin' going on during the wreck... Sounds like there might have been.

The OP is exactly why I use 50 lb power pro... I have horsed 20 lb fish around logs and even busted stumps loos with it trying to get a fish in. I refuse to lose a good fish due to crappy line. Worth every penny.

Yep...I use the exact same line and test. He wasn't prepared...kind of a spur of the moment trip. That pole was more for horsing LMBs out of Fork.
