Thanks.

Canoes, too, are unobtrusive; they don't storm the natural world or ride over it, but drift in upon it as a part of its own silence. (John Graves)

Nope, I've been to LMF for trout, but I haven't on Texoma this month. I wonder if Sat AM's weather will allow some FF'ing? There's supposed to be a Striper tournament Sat on the lake so current reports are kinda scarce right now.

They're still there, rrhyne56. I had to work for them a little harder last night then I have had to lately, but I still cleaned 11. Probably caught around 20, but they were all over 20". Went home with 2 stripers @ 22" apiece and 9 big fat sandies. good thing I had my waders with me because I had to hike a little down the shoreline to find 'em. Tonight would have been a PERFECT evening to go, but I had a few husbandly\fatherly duties to fulfill. Probably won't go this weekend with the weather changing up, either. There is a big tourney this weekend and I have seen alot of boats this week pre-fishing for it. If you go this weekend, the tourney fisherman will troll right on top of you if they see you catching anything, so be discreet about hauling anything in. You would think the "lead chunkers" would have better things to do than pester a wading fly fisherman, but they haven't figured out the fact that these fish will hit a clouser 10 times before they will hit a sassy shad 1 time. Yet, they continue to chunk....and chunk...and chunk.... I don't get it.

Hey Zonker would a 5 weight just get totally smoked on those fish or could it be done with some very careful handling? All I have is the 5 weight and it has brought in trout and largemouths in the 4 pound range..Wadda ya think?

You can catch these fish on a 5w, it's just not what I would recomend. I live by the "bring what ya got" rule. Throw som 14lb. test on there for a leader and give it a ride! Once upon a time nobody would have ever attempted a marlin or sailfish on fly, now people pay 2 months of salary just for the chance at one. I use an 8w primarily for the ability to throw larger flies 60-80 feet. If they are really blitzing the shad, 20 feet is sometimes twice as far as you need to cast. Right now is perfect for catching the bigger fish on fly because if it were to get much colder or warmer, the fish and shad would move. I have lived on Texoma all of my life and catching these fish in the summer on fly is next to impossible ( from the bank or a boat) without using circle hooks and live bait (in 25'-50' of water). I have heard lots of rumors of people cathing fish like this in the Big Mineral arm of the lake lately, also. Get up here and get it while the gettin's good.

Went out again yesterday evening with great success. Caught 16 total.....all over 20"!!! Measured 2 fish right at the 30" mark. Mild temps + south breeze + no moon + slight drizzle = GINOURMOUS FISH!!!!!
Caught most of them after dark on on my own personal "Big Black Fly". The darker colors work well at night.

Went Sat. morning with decent luck. caught 10 overs in 25-30 minutes. The bite stopped quickly as the sun came up. Ate my 2 keepers for supper....grilled with lemon and onions, potatos au-grautin, and salad. MIGHTY TASTY!!!!

OK dang it, you are killing me! LOL

I have a newer, faster 8 weight on the way here via UPS.

Steve and I may have to offer to buy you lunch if you'll take us fishing some morning before this all turns off. I'd expect that the cold does not hinder but rather helps keep them close to shore?
