Taking 8 yr old grand son out for a few hours early. Should we start down by the island or down by the dam? Looking for some surface action hopefuly.

I was there about five days ago and they were surfacing in the middle of the dam starting about 7am and stopped about 8:45. Found some on top on east edge of Cates point late morning that were bigger fish
