What model do you have? Most of the Swedish built Abu's are built on an aluminum frame. The Chinese built Abu's are for the most part built on either plastic or graphite, the Revo's being the exception to that rule, I think.

NO, Some of the early 90's reels came with a graphite reel seat but the frame is still aluminum. No value as far as being collectable or anything but it is not a detriment to the reel. I get them all the time, in fact some of the ABU's actually had Plastic Sideplates.

Own about 20 4600 c3,c4 models. Good reels for 70-80 bucks.

I've gold a gold colored 4600 that was purchased at Walmart in the early 90's. One of the old-timers I fish with claimed that Abu Garcia made them with graphite to keep the production cost down. I guess this is how the "Big Box Store" keeps their cost down. I don't know.

That and trying to cut weight. I have experienced no problem with the graphite frame. In fact I have one in the shop for sale. Gold with black spool and frame. New worm, new pawl, freshly cleaned and checked out. Smooth reel. $55 bucks.
