Anybody been catching anything out of the canals on the West End? We are headed down to Sea Isle in the beginning of September.

I take my wife there quite often and we usually catch quite a bit of undersized reds and trout, with the occasional legal size fish. What I like the most about it though is that there are usually not too many people in the area, and the large population of undersized fish keep my wife from getting bored.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Wading. My grandparents have had a house in Sea Isle for 15+ years. It is always a blast. I have not been since last Thanksgiving, so I am excited. I was hoping someone on here could give a recent canal report.
Anybody been canal, or West Bay fishing lately?

Go across the hwy, and fish the surf. It's been really hot there when the water is clear.

Stayed in Jamaica Beach canal home this past week and fished the canals. Used dead shrimp under float. Caught lots of fish but were small. Redfish, Croakers, 1 gulf toadfish. Lots of blue crabs in canals. If ya'll like catching crabs, go get a $2 two-ring crab net at walmart. Best fishing time for us was at dusk. Hope this helps.

Bill, I heard that from someone else as well. I think we will definitely try the surf when we head down. I have never tried artificial in the surf, but I've heard people are doing well with the Mirrodine lures.
Thanks for the report Brahman! Hopefully we will tear em up!

Just got back from a week at Sea Isle. Best neighborhood on the West End. Nice restaurant, bar, bait, pool and a pier.
Had some success gigging the flats East of Sea Isle right by the pier. Also had luck with reds and trouts at night. Live perch and mullet on a carolina rig.

Sounds good Bill! I hope there are still some around on Labor Day weekend! Were you fishing from your boat?

I always fish from my boat. I've outgrown all that fun stuff.
