I'm planning on making a trip down next weekend (12th-14th) and possibly camping in bolivar to do some night surf fishing. There's going to be a full moon and a late outgoing tide. I'm pretty knowledgable about saltwater fishing but haven't done much in the surf. I dont really know if I should expect much action during night without lights but am hoping with the full moon and moving tides that something should be stirring. If anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated. I just dont want to be wasting a trip, although the beach at night is always enjoyable.

Personally I wouldn't take the risk of fishing in the surf at night there, or even during the day. I've heard way too many shark stories from that area, so the times that I have gone I've used big surf rods and fished from shore. I wade fish a lot in the west bay area and am not ignorant to the fact that dangerous marine life is all around any wade fisherman at any given time, but with all the rumors I've heard I wouldn't recommend going into that water at night with a stringer of fish.

Maybe other people in the forum with more experience around Bolivar will think different.

Thanks for the input WA but I wasn't considering staying in the surf with a stringer around my waist at night, I would just wade out as deep as possible and cast my line then make it to shore. I've been wading for a legitimate amount of time and know the dangers of predatory fish and am cautious in my actions. I would just like to know if I could possibly hook up with something worth talking about, whether it be a shark or otherwise. Thanks for your concern and opinion.

I have been comtemplating the same thing. I have been to Boliver twice now, the first time we walked up on a littel (3ft maybe)sand shark in water just above our knees and the second time (July 23) I didn't come across anything.
