Getting sick of the high cost of my diesel truck, fuel & maintenance. What kind of fuel mileage are you guys seeing? I know the rear end is the biggest difference but give me your ballpark numbers, please. flehan

My '07 2500HD crew cab 4x4 with 4.10 gears gets 14 on the highway and about 10-11 average. It guzzles gas like there's no tomorrow.

That's kinda what I figured they would be, thanks Pirate. I'm only getting 15 with the diesel.

Hang in there grout. The mileage will should better with time. I have 70000 on my 2005 and get close to 20 empty and 15-17 pulling a 21' glitter sled.

I talked to a guy a while back who was fueling up a truck with 185000 miles on it and he said he is now getting 22 in town with his.

Not gonna happen Dayne, I have 115,000 on it and no matter what I have done to this damn thing it has not changed! Tried running synthetic oil, nope. Different brands of diesel, nopers. Tried nitrogen in the tires, nope. Fuel treatment, no help. Cut off cat, nada. I change the fuel filter every 10k. Different brands of air filters, nope. Tried a chip, it actually went down a bit. Had a mechanic look at the truck and nothings wrong with it. Can't reburn computer according to dealer. By the way it's a 2005 Dodge diesel 2wd with 3.73 rear end. What makes it hurt more is I only bought the 2wd because I wanted better fuel mileage. bang Just getting sick of 15mpg at $3.80 with $50 (if I do it myself) oil changes $79 if I pay oil change shop. Need new brakes, rotors, tires and now it's puffing blue/grey smoke in the morning. Anybody know what that means? violin Damn the epa.

Uncle just bought one a while back, its crew cab standard box 4x4, not sure what rear end, but is getting 16 hwy, not sure about in town.

What you do with that goat that it sucks so bad? how often do you change the oil what is the history of it, what is it uesed for, is it gettin 15 empty or with a load? How big a tires? you like racing in it? Standard or auto? It should be alot better.

People get bad milleage because they drive the CHIT out of their cars. I look at it like I paid alot of money for it im gonna take care of it. My fiance has a cavalier and get at best 29 hwy out of it, I drive it and get 26 in town and about 35 36 on the hwy, go figure.

My last truck was a 94 halfton streach cab chevy with 265K on it and it wouls still hit 18 back and forth to work and better on road trips... but thats at 60 to 65 mph and taking your time getting there, but everbody is way to cool to drive that slow.

Hey Red, the damn thing is murphys law! I bought the 2wd thinking it'd get better mileage since I drive quite a bit. The first month I had it (bought it brand new) I went back to the dealership and asked about the mileage, they said "oh it'll break in and get better in about 20k". Well 95k more miles and it still sucks. Everybody tells me it should get better but nobody can find anything wrong with it bang. I thought maybe the brakes were sticking, nope working fine. Just so freaking tired of this high cost bs.

15 is normal driving, pulling trailer 11-13. No racing, no 4.10 rear end, automatic, factory sized tires, work out of it and my load is about 300-500 lbs on average (every now and then maybe 2k). One thing I have noticed is mine soots more than most of the other diesels I see, but again everybody says that's normal.

My 09 Duramax 4x4 Crew cab gets 15-16mpg with 33s as a daily driver to work. With stock tires I was at 18 mpgs. Kinda thinking It more due to driving style then anything else. Its a 6.6 and it can drink a lot of fuel on command.

Grout-scout, The final blow is when you talk to the next guy with a 2wd cummins and he gets 24mpg.

FWIW unless you realy do drive very aggresively there is no reason you shouldn't get better mileage then you do. You might look into having your injectors cleaned/checked.

It is usually an injector that will cause the blue smoke anyway and if you are seeing that now with 80+ degree mornings it will likely be worse when the temp drops.

A good family friend of ours has a 2004 dodge 5.9 cummins 4 door, 2wd short bed and he drives 60 on the hwy and says 22-23 mpg is regular and 24 is not all that uncomon.

Uncle now has 2 size bigger tires, steps, headache rack and a bumper on it and is getting 11mpg. eek

You guys are killing me!lol. Yeah, I know I should be getting better mileage, heck even the stealership says so but AGAIN nobody can find anything wrong. The only step that is left is to replace injectors and there's no way I'm dumping that much money into this thing until they go out on their own. What makes things even worse for me is my bro in law has a 06 4wd with 35" mudders and even he gets better mileage than I do, to top it off he drives like a freak. violin I'll probably drive it another year and get rid of it, damn I want cheap fuel like we used to have.
