Anyone ever this "strolling" technique to get crankbaits and Carolina rigs down down deep?

Probably would be a good way to due it with water levels so low?

But where to do it?

Thanks.

Yes. Humps, ridges, tank dams, etc. I've never heard of strolling a c-rig, as it has a heavy weight and will sink to the bottom in any depth you throw it.

I do use the technique a lot this time of year for deep crankin'

Lance Vick introduced this technique to me. Very effective way to maximize a deep diving crankbait's time in the strike zone on deep water structure. Quite a bit of fun too!

Moving the bait with the trolling motor.

Do it all the time on Road Beds and long points

let's say you have a ridge that comes up to 22 feet with 30 all around it. Start on one side of the ridge, throw your bait out beside the boat and free spool it til you get past the structure. Once past the ridge, engage your reel and use the TM on highest setting to pull the bait down. Once it reaches max depth, get off the TM and start reeling. This will enable you to dig bottom up one side, over the top and back down the other side of that ridge. Savvy?

Works very well on Conroe, Chris

I've done it but never done any good and really was only doing it bc back in the day I didn't have a motor on my little 2 man boat and this passed time moving from one spot to another. I think this is considered more trolling.

strolling is what guys that are trolling like to call it so their buddies dont razz them about it. Man up and call it trolling! cheers

Last time I was at Fork there was a guide fishing right next to us that would have his clients cast out on one side of the point and then drive to the other side with the big motor (while the clients are free spooling) and put in idle while they reeled them in. Once in they would cast out again and head across the point. Looked terribly boring...Is this normal over there? Why not just troll with the big motor all the time?

It is a very effective method to use with the big spinner baits in 30 ft. of water. It sure saves your arm and keeps the bait in the water for the duration when fishing a conture say 30 ft. deep all the way out and around a point, or around a hump. You are using both the wind and trolling motor to regulate the speed of the drift to keep the bait on the bottom. I have caught 2 over 10 on Ivie using this method.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

It is very effective on roadbeds at Fork. Many times I take people fishing that are total non-fishermen. Some of them can't hit the water with a bait much less repeatedly cast & cast to a target. Call it what you will but it has put a lot of good fish in the boat for me that otherwise would have not been caught by my guys.

Funny story... I was at Monty with two of the customers that buy chemicals from my company. My buddy in his Basscat had two more customers with him. Now he is an accomplished tournament angler that many of you would know if I mentioned his name. We found some deep fish on the edge of a hump where it went from 22 to 16 back to 28 in the creek. I tossed out a buoy because the wind was blowing so hard. We rigged up C rigs and started fishing.

Thirty mins later we are all six of us still waiting for our first bite. I pull out two rods with DD22's and turn on the TM. First pass across the spot we hook up with 2 five pounders. Next pass same thing, doubles. We go to lunch a couple hours later with 28 fish between 3 to 7 pounds all trolling/strolling/whatever you call it... LOL

My buddy in the other boat had two dinks. His response at lunch was, "Trolling is against my religion, I just can't do it!" I said, "I know bro, you big time tournament guys don't have to stoop to trolling..."

After lunch we went right back to doing our thing and started catching them again right out from under my bud's TM. Some of the fish would come up & jump and almost throw water on his Cat. It was comical!

About TEN Fish later he is out there beside me with his TM on high dragging a crankbait...

The moral of the story is NEVER SAY NEVER! I can tell you this. The two guys in his boat watched us catch over 30 good fish from under their boat while they sat there dragging a C-rig fishless. Do you think they cared how many tournaments their captain had won on a C-rig???

Tony, you are the one that got me started on this trolling thing many years ago!
