Anybody ever fish the ponds that are off Wildlife/Hunter Ferral Road. These are the ones that are north of Wildlife- bordered west of Beltline-East of Hardrock/161-South of Oakdale. Can you bank fish there? What can you catch? Baits to try? Looks like you can park off Wildlife Road. Legal to do so? Also was thinking about canoeing down from Mike Lewis Park on the West Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Safe do to so? River polluted? Fish-i.e.catfish, perch found there? Thanks for any info. Not going to eat fish, just wanted to catch them.

I believe those ponds have fish in them, but the vegetation around them is overgrown and there are snakes everywhere over there. Running Bear Park has decent cats and perch. The West Elm is under a consumption advisory. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/fish/consumption_bans/

Going to take the UL on by Running Bear Park to give it a shot. Did not know about those ponds in the back holding any fish, and I've been living right down the street.

I actually do better in the deeper pools of the creek. Those ponds are going to be boiling because they aren't that deep.

Used to catch alot of Carp and Catfish in the ponds. Took a Bass Buster on em once and came back to my car broken into. The creek at Running Bear has always been very good for Catfish of all sizes. Ive never fished for Bass in the creek but I did catch a 5 pound Bass on a dead shad as soon as it hit the water one time.

I saw a few handsized bass swimming around the deeper pools of the creeks. Not sure about the ponds.

ive caught some nice bass and crappie from the big pond off wildlife in my inflatable pontoon. Supposedly there are alligators in there from the old safari zoo that escaped so be careful. The creek from Wagner Park has too many shallow (dried up parts) to successfully float down to the trinity. plus the snakes are insane down there. You can kayak from lewis park on the trinity. Lots of rough fish but if you arent fishing for food what does it matter. Plus carp are the hardest fighting freshwater fish so lots of drag stripping fun.

Bowfishing sucks
