I found some nice sandals for wading at Wal-mart for $18. They are "Ozark Trail" brand, and they are the enclosed kind, that protect your toes, and without any straps to catch your flyline. I've waded a few times, even in deep mud, and they have held up well. Mine are black with yellow threads.
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

I am new to the Henderson, Tyler area, and have had a bit of trouble finding supplies. I have mail order spots, but all I have found is Academy in Longview, that has anything that resembles flyfishing stuff. Any Ideas? Also, I have found a few ponds that I have had a chance to fish, but do not know where the better places are. I have a blast in my front yard casting on the grass. When I can cast to water, it is better. If I catch a fish or so, I am in hog heaven! I don't even care if it is just a little bitty bream. Flyfishing is too much fun to do, and not feel guilty!
What am I doing here!?! Should have gone fishing.

I just moved into the Henderson,Tyler area and have had a bit of a time finding flyfishing gear other than by mail. I have found a slim assortment at the Longview Academy, but that is all. is anyone aware of a shop that I am overlooking? I would LOVE to spend some of my $$$ there! I also have found a few ponds and the lakes around to fish, but am not aware of any really great areas yet. Any suggestions? I cast out in my front yard in the grass a lot, and when I can I go to a small lake near where I work in Henderson. I catch some bream, and an occasional Bass, but I have a blast just casting in water. If I found a place that was pretty to look at, where I could catch fish too, I would almost feel guilty! I'm looking for a honey hole. I catch and release almost every thing, Ijust like to have the chance to play tug with them.
What am I doing here!?! Should have gone fishing.

I checked them out last night at the local WalMart and found them on clearance for $5.

I walk, wade, tube, and kayak creeks and find them to be very scenic and peaceful. The trick is to get far enough upstream and remote from the normal bank and boat fishing crowd. You'll be amazed at the fish you can catch in creeks. Please continue to catch and release and you'll be able to enjoy "recycled" fish when you return to the same pools. Here's a pic from one of my many creek excursions.

Flyfisher126, there is a great shop in Flint, south of Tyler called The Full Creel. The owner is a friend of mine and he has amassed a collection of some of the best tackle for the money that is available. He also teaches the fly fishing course at TJC, and can offer you some instructional help as well, if needed. His web site is www.thefullcreel.com.

WOW!!!!! I can not believe there were three GOLD Mines I was driving by! I somehow just missed them. When I drive in Tyler I have had to keep my eyes peeled to traffic. There is more traffic there than I am used to, or I'm just getting old enough to Watch Out! I have to work all this weekend, but you can bet I will find some reason to go to Tyler and Flint the first of the week. Thanks so much for the help. I figured this would be a great sorce for info, I just did not think I would get so much s FAST! I will keep at the creeks and stuff. I just found a pond behind my house that I can fish. the owner said it is FULL of Crappie, Bream and cats. I can't wait now.
What am I doing here!?! Should have gone fishing.
