How low was the lake when this survey was done? Is it the same as past chips?

Any chip you buy locally can get the update through your PC. Updates like this (and others) are free and unlimited for a year.

We will be shipping the new data immediately, but there is no way to know if the chart on the shelf has the "freshest" data without updating it after the purchase.

We refer 100% of our sales to our dealer network, so we can't sell direct. here is the dealer locator http://navionics.com/NavionicsDealerSearch.asp

Completely diffent. The shoreline is much closer to the higher water levels that have encompasssed so much of the brush. The old map had you over dry land most of the time unless you were fishing mid-lake structure.

However, if you guys don't get some rain soon...

Sure.

first off, the card will need to have been purchased more recently than last October.

You will need a generic SD/MSD reader (a lot of PCs have them built in now). Plug your Hotmaps PREMIUM or PLATINUM (not basic HotMaps) into the reader(be sure to UNLOCK the card by flipping the small tab on the upper left of the chip down).

go to www.navionics.com and select the Web Store at right. You will be prompted to install Adobe Air on your PC. Do this and then, when you Enter the Store, select "Navionics Download/Freshest data" on the bottom left.

The store will look for your card and then, just follow the prompts. The actual update can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, so don't wait until just before you are out the door to the lake.

When the Update is complete, you have ALL the freshest data.

On the first shot of the new data, what are the contour lines on the island?

Why aren't there any contour lines with the new data? It looks as if you just added blue to reflect water to a different contour line.

How can you tell if a new chip, that is still in the package, is rewritable? Will the packaging state that on the outside?

All chips in the new boxes should work if its newer than October. All you have to do is make sure its unlocked and it will download the data to the chip. I just bought one from Bass Pro and it worked fine. They have last years chips as well but they are marked down in price. My chip was around 150 bucks.
