there has been very little about whitebass on the fly listed here lately.. hasn't anyone been out yet? I've been working my streamers as jigs in the Yegua and doing very well but haven't used the flyrod much.. it is just too brushy....

I have not yet gone out looking. Too bad that this doesn't happen when the days are longer and there is time after work to cruise the various creeks and feeders in my area.

I need to find some Lavon creeks that I can fly fish in.

Newman's bottom was not the place to bust out my fly rod from what I saw. I caught some fish there last weekend on jigs.

Granger should be getting good soon, if we can get some warmer weather. I should be able to get out sometime this weekend and give the fly rod whites a shot out there.

When setting the hook on a trout, I just raise the rod tip. How do you set the hook on a sandie? Do you have to strip strike or can you just raise the rod tip? Would appreciate any replies.

I strip set everything with the flyrod.. the flyrod just doesn't have the backbone to set the hook.. especially with bigger hooks and flys.. and keep em' sharp!

I got rigged last year to fly fish for whites and am anxiously waiting to have a go at them when the weather warms up.
I wish I could see a demo of the strip set of the the hook. The little amount of bass fishing I have done I raised the rod to set the hook. Can you describe setting the hook the stripping way?

The strip set is simple. From your fishing position, rod tip low and pointed down the line, you are stipping the line in. When you feel the fish take you simply pull the line harder for that strip then raise the rod to fight the fish. But Keep the rod at a 45 degree andle until you are ready to land the fish, this puts more of the load on the butt of the rod, then lift it higher to bring the fish in. As was said earlier, the tip of a flyrod does not have the back bone to set the hook or subdue a decent fish.

if you can find room enough for casting .. anywhere along the San Gabriel below Circleville. I haven't fished the area in the last 7 years but did fish it a lot in the 90's. I didn't fly fish it at all but the San Gabriel is very simular to the Yegua in terrain and trees.. Flyfishing is just another way to catch the fish for me... and at times it can be very diffcult to keep it out of the trees and brush... especially in the tree covered creeks and rivers.

Anywhere from Hwy 95 downstream. If you go over the river and take the next right you'll see where to park (over the RR trax).
Or keep going another 1/2 mile to the 90 degree turn to the left. There's an entrance to the parks and wildlife area where there's a primitive boat launch. lots of stumps there, but the crappie fishing (and white bass) should be all in there.

Justin-

You ready for some fishing this weekend? I'll give you a call later this week. I've been hearing rumors that there are alot of white bass down there that need to be caught.

Wet a line this morning for the first time since early Dec! Checked out Rowlett Creek this morning for about an hour before work to see if there is any action. Nothing... Water was flowing pretty well, but probably too early still.
