you arent worried about the thickness of the putty distorting the images? I see how putty can be more reliable since there would be no air bubbles but the density of it doesn't matter?

Worried? No. Good thing is if it doesn't work wel,l I will just pull it out and try something else. But I have read that the electrical putty has giving people better readings.

I used Marine Goop on my last yak and plan to do it on my new one. Never had issues with bubbles. I now just need to see if Scott makes a base for my Lowrance!!

Not to be a thread stealer but I bought this mount and I plan on mounting my FF on a piece of wood then mounting the FF with the wood attachment to the mount. My FF is the lowrance x51 and it has a small square-ish base so it wont fit this one. Just an idea for you...

Yeah, that is probably the best idea with the wood and MUCH cheaper than the RAM mounts.

Alright well the putty is a no go! The screen had a constant bar across it. guess I will get the more permeant marine goop. It was worth a shot. Might work if I cut down the thickness of the putty under the transducer..

The rubber plugs work great, they don't leak and you can take them out if you need to.

I used pvc fittings in the hole so I could tighten them down and then use the rubber stopper inside the PVC fitting. It also provided a smooth spot for the wires to run through the PVC.

I really like that battery box! Nicely done!

actually not a battery box, just a box I built so I could raise the triple rod holder above my legs. The box is for the wires to run through, the battery box is below in a plastic container.

This is the battery box without the lid, it also has a smal rubber plug that the wires run through. (not pictured)

This is what I used for the wires through the deck. Totally waterproof, no goop, and you can remove the cables by just unscrewing it if you want to take the FF off. They cost a little bit for a fitting, but I've never even though about water getting in through mine.

Liquid Tight Wire Seal

West Marine has them, but I had to order one from Hook1 because the couplings for my FF were larger than most and West Marine only had the 3/8 size.

Goop to the hull is the way to go imo for a SOT. You just set it and forget it. I'm not really a bait or school chaser, though.

The marine goop constantly gave me bad readings... The duct seal worked wonders.... You probably didn't 'twist' the transducer into the duct seal to create a very thin layer... Then again, I have an Ocean Kayak, and they're notorious for having thin plastic... So maybe that makes all the difference?

Yeah my redfish is much thicker plastic (sturdier) than my ocean kayak.

I drilled through the top for the FF wires. It seemed thick to me. maybe 3/8"in. I will thin down the putty a little more before I move on to the goop.
