There's no way trout will survive Blue Hole past April. I do know you can catch them until the first of April and that they spread out almost to Hwy 29. With the abundance of nymphs they will grow well though I think 3 pounds might stretch it a bit.
I took my 18 month son out Saturday mid morning just to see what was going on. Green water would definitely have hurt the fishing there. Should clear up with little rain this week so it'll be better. Supposed to get a little cooler also, so that will help things out.

I've wondered if the trout stocked in the blue hole moved up stream and how far... I don't mind walking especially if I can get to water that isn't fished hard.. has anyone fished up stream from the blue hole in years past? did you do any good? Last January I went down stream and had good luck but now there ain't enough water!

Freebirds, I agree with your opinion!!! I don't think that they could make it past April either! And yes I thought three pounds was a little much too! I just agreed with him and tossed it after he left--but hey you never know question for those who have been to blue hole: What is the biggest trout that you have/or have seen, caught at blue hole. Just wondering God Bless, ------------------ ><{{{">Fish N Toph<"}}}><

years ago (1995?) about 12 inches.. recently about 9 inches.. maybe 10.. in the blue hole. Now the Guadalupe is a different story.. the largest trout I've ever seen there I caught ! a 21 inch pretty beat up mostly red- and hook-jawed carry-over I don't know what it weighed and all I got to show for it is this fuzzy picture. CPR as usual... [This message has been edited by hook-line&sinker (edited 12-14-2003).]

Probably 12" for rainbow and about 10" for the albinos.

Spent Saturday morning at Rio with CTFF. Caught 3 myself... one 10" or so and the others more like 15". Was cold, but nice. Everyone I saw fly fishing there caught... not sure about the spin fishers but I never actually saw them catch. [This message has been edited by FreebirdsWB (edited 12-22-2003).]

The lake level is real low right now so along the dam at beuscher it is possible to fly fish. I tried it a little but had no real success on the fly so I switched to the spinning gear and tossed a rooster tail about a million times to catch three rainbows. I had my kayak with me but since I was fishing with my dad and the other people right around the dam were catching fish I just took it easy and fished there along the bank.

Finally made it down to the Guadalupe (waco springs) on Tuesday (Dec-30th) we started fishing after lunch and fished until 530PM. My daughter caught two on the fly, the Nephew caught 5 (2 on fly, 1 on roostertail & 2 with just the net!) and I caught 5 on the fly. CPR'ed everything.. and just like last year we missed several on short strikes, with lots of chasers.. the fly of the day was a small gold bead head olive wooly booger, which I ran out of too quickly and had to use the same fly in brown which didn't work as well. We used double fly rigs to test several color combos, but the olive worked the best. TPWD had just stocked that morning and a group of about 30 fish were hanging out in very shallow water not far from where they were dropped. That was my first good run with sight fishing for trout, I think we caught five total of the shallow fish. We caught the rest from a deeper hole just below some rapids. Besides the constant phone calls from work, it was a very good day, especially to see my daughter catch two trout using her new fly rig she got for Christmas! another trip to the Guad, solo because partner was ill ... tried for almost 2 hours with the fly rod but couldn't even raise a stink.. forgive me brothern but I was forced to switch to powerbait and had constant hits with that and caught 2 in pretty quick secession.. experimented with the bait setup and even tried it with the flyrod .. had one hit... very disappointed knowing that the trout were right there but I could only get them to hit bait ... no flys worked .. nothing.. nada.. zero... zultchO.. I tried new methods and old.. nothing worked except the powerbait...and it worked everytime! I had to get back home for work so I had to leave just after 3PM .. as the fish started coming to the surface for the first time all day!

Hook, where do you get in the water when you go to the Guad? I have not been there, but only 1 time and that was just to float the river with some friends. My gf lives in San Marcos and I always tell myself I am going to take the long rod with me and hit the Guad when I go, but I just never get around to it. I think mostly because I really don't know where to go. If anyone could help me out on where to start out that would be great.

The Guad has three places where trout stamp holders can fish for free. starting from Greune and heading up river just before the first crossing at Waco springs, then the next is at Anglers Choice at about the third crossing(below the old Beans camp) then the last is at the dam. The best way to fish the Guad is to rent a canoe or raft and float down and stopping to fish the better spots not accessable from the bank. I have floated many times from whitewater sports to rocky beach or guad landing and every time was pretty good.. at least it was better then any trip where I was limited to one small area. TU stocks much bigger trout (12-20 inches) then TPWD (7-12inches) and getting to that water takes more effort but it is worth it.. I'll make a couple more trips down there to the river but I don't know when. I have been fishing for whitebass and crappie more this year because the fishing is closer to home and takes less planning, effort and money and the trout are usually pretty small..
