Hi Y'all,
I'll be heading to Branson Friday and was planning on fishing Taneycomo on
Saturday (12/6). Any of you have any knowledge to share on hot patterns for this time of year? Any info would be appreciated.
I haven't had the chance to flyfish for a couple of years now and gettig very excited.
Thanks
Sasquatch

Thanks Robin.
I went to their site but was trolling here for someones secret weapon . Anyways, I'll let y'all know how it goes. I haven't wet a fly in over a year and I'm pumped. I'll only have Saturday to fish and will be taking a beginner along but past experience tells me it won't be a wash.

I hear that there is some good fishing up that way. I bet that if you stop in one of the fly shops and buy some flies, they will turn you on to the tips and hot flies.

Hope your newbie does great and gets "hooked" on fly fishing.

Well I got back late Monday night and just now had time to write.
Taneycomo was great. They started generating water at about 6am and shut it off around 10.
The rising water turned the fish on but I could only find the small ones (12-14").
Olive/grey weighted scuds and midges (with flash like gold ribs or beads) seem to be the ticket.
Not too many anglers out, maybe 15, and 8 of them were hovering around outlet #1 until the waters receded. Left about 1pm to catch a show with some still biting. Some did rise to laying midges but I saw no takers on drys.
Great day just to be out. Light winds created enough ripples to hide leaders and errant casts.

fishing AND catching, now that's my idea of an extra-great trip!

I have heard that if they look like they are rising to surface flies but don't hit drys then they are likely to be keyed on emergers.

Thanks for the update Sasquatch, hope to hear more from you soon.

Did you see any of the guys "shuffling" as reported in Ozark Angler web page? Bad sportsmanship that. Thought it was illegal. If not it ought to be.

Chryops,
I saw the report but "shuffling" is a term I'm not familiar with. I assumed it was dragging their feet to kick the sow bugs loose. Please elaborate.
As far as snagging, I was too far from outlet #1 to tell if an of that was happening.

That's right. They shuffle around and kick up nymphs, scuds, etc. and then fish in the cloud of stuff kicked up. Dispicable, unsporting and deadly on some tailwater fisheries. Sometimes they team up with one kicking and others fishing below. It started on the San Juan and they call it the San Juan shuffle. It's illegal there, should be everywhere.
