So my boat hasn't been started in about 4 months or so... took it out the other day and the battery was dead.. doh!! Should have checked that before!! So I pulled the battery out and checked it read extremely low.. dont quite remember what it was but it was between 0 and 2 volts somewhere. Charged it overnight last night and this morning the charges shows full... Volt meter reads 12.9 volts. I did a load test on it and it is in the weak zone.. the battery is rated to 720 cranking amps and 600 cca. when I load test it reads to the 400 amp mark if that makes any sense. for the 700 amp range it shows weak.... so should I trash this battery (recycle) and buy a new one or will this one be ok?? Thanks

In the past, I have tried to recharge "dead" batteries a number of times, and always, without exception, ended up having to buy a new battery. Maybe you could get lucky, but it is not worth the risk, considering the big inconvience if the battery ends up dead beyond salvage. Just my 2 cents.

Yep get a new one and an onboard charger with a float cycle while your at it, and leave it pluged in all the time. I have had Walmart batteries last 4 years (not the norm)like this. Keep the water level checked and only fill with distilled water.
