Hey fellas just wondering if the water is too cold to wade fish now? I am planning to go to the Blanco river tomorrow and was thinking of wading rather than floating. I have waders but my younger brother and his friend don't. The forecast says it will be 66 at 10am, 71 @11am and 76 by noon. Any suggestions appreciated. Tight lines. Dosxx

Waders would help but the blanco isn't too cold yet, so as long as nobody falls in or goes swimming unexpectedly y'all will be OK. Air temp won't matter as much if the top half of the fisherman ain't wet. If it were the Guadalupe I'd say use the waders cause that waters darn cold I've wade fished without waders well into November around Bryan, but sometimes it really depends on how deep you need to get, I can stand almost anything up to my knees but the closer it gets to "the twins" the less I'm in favor of stickin' it out. I've come real close several times to getting hypothermia and that's almost as fun as a heat stroke. If these guys are manly men don't sweat it, if not then suggest they invest in some good waders. ------------------

HL&S, LOL, yes the "twins" don't like the agua too much as it gets colder! Blue "twins" would not be fun! LOL Thanks for the reply. I'll let y'all know how the trip goes tomorrow. Tight lines. Dosxx

Dosxx I went this afternoon from 2:30 to 5 and the water was cold in some spots but, even without waders it was not that bad. It was very nice with the weather we are having. I did not catch very many though. Only caught 4 sand bass from about 1/2 lb to 1 1/2 lbs, although I did se a few bigger ones they also saw me. I need to invest in some polarized sunglasses, and it would have been better. The water was very clear in the high 70's low 80's in the warm parts and low 70's to high 60's in the cold spots. No luck with any dries i fished the bottom with a red and white bugger and a tequelly streamer from Orvis: http://images.orvis.com/orvis_assets/thumbnails/002C0000.jpg I also think this would be a good one to get: http://images.orvis.com/orvis_assets/thumbnails/002C0000.jpg the halloween conehead rubber bugger, its the perfect color. I might head down there tomorrow maybe I will se you there. Tight Lines, Mike

Nuthin wrong with fishing with a blue jig... it only hurts until it goes numb. Was out in the San Gabriel Saturday morning. The water was warm enough that I wouldn't have had to use my waders, but the air temp was pretty cool before sunup. ------------------ <IMG SRC=\"http://www.millikans.net/justin/freeonthefly.jpg\"> click!

Mitchie, thanks for the info. Where did you get those flies? Also, I think you hyperlinked the same fly twice. The Blanco was definitely wadeable today but the fish just weren't very interested in my flys. I tried clousers, spiders, minnow pattern you name it and the bigger fish just wouldn't go for it. Every time I laid my fly down it spooked them. Not sure if I need more instruction on my casting or if they were just acting funny today. I did manage to land a couple of little dinks though. Here they are. I wet waded this weekend a couple places with no problem. A little chilly in the morning but generally the water temp. is still warmer than air temp in the mornings. Neoprene booties keep the feet a little warmer while wet wading.
