I see people fishing up and down Miller road all the time.
What are they fishing for?
Where are some good place to wet a line this time of year?
Any "runs" (sand bass, crappie) I need to know about and when?
Where is the best place to catch a mess of catfish?
I have a very capable Jeep Wrangler and can get almost anywhere around the lake.
Any hidden spots that are 4x4 only?

firewheel can be 4x4 only after a rain. they may be fishing for cats right now, but the crappie start running in november, like mell said, and the sandies usually come up with the first good flood in february, and leave in april.

Are we talking about that little half street between 78 and the power sub-station?
How far does that road go? Is there a gate?
I have 4wd.

there are several places to acces the creek, pleasant valley, bike park off of centerville, 66, firewheel, and miller, all are good fishing places, the creek isnt really worth it right now, id just keep tuned when TarponFly starts to get the winter crappie run thread going in about september, all the info youll ever need will be on that thread.

The places that have been referenced are south of George Bush. "Firewheel", is typically talking about "Firewheel Parkway".

I know the spot you're talking about, and it is appealing. I've dropped a line there a couple of times, but my success (or lack there of) is no indicator of whether there's fishies there to catch. (hehe)

It looks like there are a couple of obstacles to fish making it all the way to that sub-station. First is the George Bush construction which pushed the creek through a couple of tubes for a while. Not sure the status of that today. And second appears to be a small fall south of the sub station and north of G. Bush.

Again, no guarantee that there are or are not fish there. Few people fish there... which may indicate futility, coz these bass-turds seem to find fins if they're in there. And you'd see a line of p/u trucks along that little street.

I'll probably go back in there again and give it a shot sometime, coz I like the little spot. Just be CAREFUL and SURE that you can get back up any bank you descend on the creek. They are steep, deep and loose, so... just mind your manners.

Other than that, head south to the lake, at spots where roads cross Rowlett Creek closer to the lake.

Welcome to the area.

There is an old nature preserve across the creek from the bike trail parking that I can get to. I think most guys park at the Radio Control Airport and walk toward Firewheel/Castle but I can drive back there in the jeep.
Steep banks but lots of shade to sit under.

4x4 or not, most places do not allow off roading along the creek. Getting a ticket will ruin a good day fishing.
