The big bull was caught in the first gut. Usually I kayak the baits out past the breakers to about 400 yds. It all depends on what reel I'm yaking out. The hooks are 20/0 circle hooks. The line is 50lb mainline, with +/- 100yds of 130lb. then 20' of 600lb. and 4' of 1000lb S/S cable. I'll wade fish on the first bar. I don't go further cuz I know what's out there. I don't have a family, but if I did, they would not be allowed to swim past the first bar. I know it's rare to be bit by a shark, I'm still not taking any chances.

Do sharks attack kayaks? No,(not yet) but they do follow you, and they will "bump" the kayak, and they will every once in a while mouth the yak. That is usualy when fishing under the birds. Where there is birds, there are fish, of all kinds, and they are crazy. I don't go beyond the site of land. I don't go much over 1500yds from shore. There are some yakers that go to the oil rigs offshore. I would not do that unless I'm with a large group of kayakers. I don't have pics of my leaders, but I can pull one out and post it in a day or two.
