Does anybody know if the Lakes Brauning & Calaveras are coal fired or natural gas powered plants? The reason that I'm asking the question is, that I heard on a news radio here in the DFW AREA, WBAP 820 AM, that all coal burning power plants will have to be up to the new EPA standards for pollution beginning Jan 2012. This means that all coal burning power plants would have to be retro fitted with all kinds of pollution equipment, and if not they would probably end up shutting down; a kind of cap & trade. This post is not political as such. I hope these two lakes have natural gas powered plants. If one or both is coal, anybody in the San Antonio area might keep track of this, and do not take them for granted like I did Tradinghouse Creek near Waco; because these two lakes is the only place that I know to catch freshwater redfish at as of now!

Braunig is natural gas and Calaveras is coal, although I think the coal fired plant is relatively new and was probably built to meet the new standards.

I hope they don't close down Calaveras. When me and a friend went to look at lake Fairfield back in Feb 09, The people in the office and a Game W told me if Cap & Trade or a fact similarly thereof went into effect; they would shut down the plant. I don't know when the Power plant at Calaveras was built, but don't surprised if they shut it down. This is a new updated EPA standard that I gathered.

I hope they don't shut it down but it was made very clear early on that the current administration has coal plants in their crosshairs. My question would be where and with what means are they going to replace the energy?

Between this and ethanol gas, I'm not so sure EPA should not stand for Extinct Political Agency. bang

UPDATE: Here's a website link to go and read. The best that I can learn is that probably Lake Calaveras will be a victim of all of this stupidity as well, So you fishermen that live in this area and fish this lake, and especially those who fish for redfish, don't take them for granted. Some of them will survive over the years, and it will depend on how cold the winters are will determine on how many die off. This is what happened on Tradinghouse Creek reservoir near Waco,TX. I seen this for myself. soap

Calli just had the latest stack added to the other two.I'm thinking when the fish is hooked,by the time we reel them in,it's already cooked.Let's keep them cool.
