got out to HI a little past the Jefferson County line, approx 2 miles from barricades, about 11:30am. the surf was very rough and sandy. had 3 rods set up. had a run on the rod with cut whiting but reeled in an empty hook. about 2 pm the storm moved in and i packed up. figured i could hit the back end of the storm if i head west, instead of trying to wait it out. pretty heavy rain and winds.

light rain at Rollover Pass so i stopped for about an hour, caught some large hardheads. headed over to the ferries. it was a rough ride. gusting winds and very high waves. i was the second vehicle from the front right behind a large ford van and the waves came over the van and over my CR-V. the ferry was rocking side to side. scariest ferry ride i've had in 20 years. frown

the tail end of the storm was on the east side of Galv Island. so i headed to SLP, the skies had cleared and the water was clear/green and very calm. i hit a patch of soft sand and a guy in a red chevy was kind enough to pull me out. i set 3 rods out, had a chunk of stingray, a catfish fillet and chunk of whiting. the whiting had a run but missed it. set out another chunk of whiting. had a great run and hooked up a 42" bullred. took some pics and released it. that was the last piece of whiting so i used some leftover finger mullets, had a few quick runs with them but no hook ups. i'll have some pics up in a day or two.

overall a good day laugh

Amazing how 1 good fish can make up for all kinds of inconveniences. Nice fish and great report. Thanks for the info on bait. I am going down to the Corpus area next week. Hope to find some nice ones.
