Limited out on Red's Saturday and Sunday Morning. Freelined mullet and mud minnows on circle hooks. Reds saturday were all about 24 inches each. Sunday was two 21's and a 24. They were hitting the smaller mullet faster then the med and large ones. Lost about 4 fish and two of them felt huge but all and all a great trip to the coast.

Thanks for the report AustinBrian. There's no doubt you can't go wrong with free-lineing F/M and M/M. I know tons of places in the Galveston-Freeport area to catch all I want. But the Lower Coast is going to be all new for me. But I'll definitely keep that hole in mind. Especially with the predicted higher winds and especially the extreme heat. In my past experiences wadefishing the coast, (3 to 20 years ago) during the heat of the summer the fish will definitely be holding in the deeper holes. Thank's again for the report. .......GFAFTA....... FISHINGFOOL40

Brian, would you please post (or email) directions to Deadman's Hole. I have fished around Fish Pass several times and have heard good things about Deadman's but don't know exactly how to get there. Maybe I've been there and don't know it!

Ok. So comming from Airline on 358 (SPID) you head to the island and get on the island and hang the right (North) going to Port A. After the second bridge you will start seeing 4X4 paths on the left hand side. Take one of thoes back North West and you wil come to dead mans hole. You will see a bunch of sandbars going into the bay. We have fished a bunch there and normally look for one area where nobody is fishing. Castnet up some bait and freeline crabs, fish or shrimp into the holes and your good to go. I have Caught a few monstor Specs back there (30-34 Inches) but 9 times out of 10 it's Red's.

I assume from the directions that it is very near Fish Pass?
And if you are coming from corpus on SPID you would turn left after the JFK Causeway? Or Have I gone to far?

I figured this would get yall's attention, HH and scottie. Deadmans hole is in my booklet, just very hard to get to before daylight for the first time, also is a different way to fish. Shallow flats and a hole deeper. Have to have a different mentality there. Like AB said, lots of casting with bait, or doing lots of casting w/spoons, topwaters, etc. Grass can cause frustration. It has been really hot for reds right now, that's for sure.

TOO, never got our booklet. Maybe Hardhead, and some of us can hook up and explore this hole. Sounds like fun.
Need to add some more spots to my list.

Scottie, I know, it's not done yet. My web site being built and a re-occuring "check engine" light on the truck have kept me from getting much done on the book. Looked over the construction on JFK last week and it looks like a whole chapter will either be removed or re-written. Won't know until they get some more work done. A shame, it had some good spots to park and wade. Dang hurricanes! .....I'm trying to get to it, just got these other buggers to deal with at the same time...........Agree, we need to get down to Deadmans, was going to last Friday, but no wind meant Portland shoreline for me, reinforced how good that area is when the wind is low. Doesn't happen very often but when it does it's a great spot for wading.

TOO, we need to get together again and go fishing. I can drive if the old engine light is a problem. We could meet up with some others if they are interested (Hardhead????)!! We have tried many times to get a few of the TFFers together to fish. Maybe the summer would be a better time to start the process.
T-shirts????? Can I do something. I could get some bids from local T-shirt folks. I do business with many T-shirt companies, same as the Spurs use. Something simple on a quality T would cost under $8...

AustinBrian: Were you catching fish early in the morning or all day. Do I need a 4x4 to get to DeadMans Hole. I know where it is, I just have never fished there. I'm heading to Port A from Lubbock on July 8-14.
I am on foot all week so I try to find some wading spots. I'm fairly new to wading at Port A. I usually just go to the North Jetty and try for specks just for ease of the trip over and back. I usually do pretty good over there if the surf is right; however, I'm tired of the same old rocks.
I would like to try something different. Fish pass or DeadMans is raising an eyebrow.
Thanks, h2oman

Fish Pass has been weak since April IMHO. Scottie and Wrxmania did good early spring, but twice in back-to-back weekends april/May not very good. Went last Friday evening was aweful. Deadmans has been good as has Shamrock/Wilsons Cut. Topwaters or gold spoons if too windy........Surf from Port A down to PINS has been hot when the winds are low or calm. Being mobile is best.......Portland shoreline has been good for numbers also when the wind is low or calm.......But the surf is my number one pick for a wader on a calm morning or late evening.......was going to shake on down to Bird Island and try to get scottie to tag along but it's been the dink capital for the last few weeks........A possiblilty is the corner of the JFK Causeway when you head into CC. construction there is a hassle but seems to be some parking along the side close to the mainland fish that corner of the Laguna, been a great spot in the past, just don't know about the construction.......looked it over last week it's a possible.......scottie the engine exhaust problem seems to be gone now, was first the EGR valve, then the O2 sensor then the DPFE vale, just a real pain, try to get on the road and deal with the ranches and guides and stuff and bingo, light comes back on. But hey! 6 years old, 130K, not a bad deal, only thing to cause any problem other than the heater core, it's to be expected.....Truck done pulled tons of stuff, not mention the CC Kenner, ATV, you name it, been a good truck,.......... got to admit it was getting to the point were I thought I was going to have to take the .41 mag to it and put one through the block ....next weekend is an aweful time, 4th of July on a Friday, yuck........watching the weather, if the wind holds from the N quad think I'll hit Portland Sat or Sun for a wade or two.......will be down in Port A on the 7-10th will most likely get some surf wading done, family trip so it will be limited, will take the hoss boy to fish some off the piers, jetties, etc, can you say PIGGIES!!!! TOO: What part of the Portland Shoreline are you referring to? Between the Northshore golf course and Indian Point Pier? My aunt lives in Portland just two blocks away from the shore in this area.
Thanks, h2oman

Thats the area, that stretch along there is great fishing when the wind lies, or is from the North quad. Hard to fish when above 15 mph........Looks like Saturday morning to be light and variable winds. going to make a run down there.......I.P.P.area offers safe parking, meaning no one will holler or get upset, you got an aunt 2 blocks from the shoreline? nice, got any access (vacant lots) near by to the water? good parking for you.

As you get closer to the golf course from IPP, you can see a small City park with a playground, swings, etc. up from the shoreline several hundred feet. It is in between several nice houses with decks that look out over the bay. The access is not close to the shoreline, but within reasonable walking distance. Do you know the spot?
