 1979 mercury 90 HP no pee?

just bought a 1979 mercury HP 6 cyl inline.put new impeller in. when i stared it up just a trickled of water came out. my old johnson (1972 65hp) did that. is my mec suppose to pee?

Could have a clogged line or maybe got the blades bacwards when putting the housing on. If it was used in saltwater you could have salt build up in the water jackets. A good way to check that is remove the thermostat housing and look in to see there is salt.

Take a piece of wire and run it up that hole, sometimes spiders will build in there and plug it up.
It may have a thermostat as well. Merc does that but I don't know if they were doing it back then. If that be the case it will have to be fully warmed up before it will start to "pee".....

my 81 90 horse merc starts to pee about 10 seconds after start up no thermostat

did your motor come with thermostat? and if so does it run ok with out one?

no didn't come with a thermostat, it runs fantastic starts up great doesn't no hesitation on the throttle, top speed on my boat is 38-40.
as far as your trickle i have had ants clog the line before and had to take it off and use a hanger to get them out.
